is seeking a Per Diem Licensed Vocational Nurse I/II to join their team at the Arlington Campus located in Riverside.
Job Summary Under the supervision and direction of a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, or physician, the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) will perform nursing duties within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing in a hospital inpatient setting or outpatient clinic. The role is not an independent practitioner. Per diem personnel receive additional compensation in lieu of County fringe benefits, and assignments are flexibly scheduled or on an on‑call basis.
Responsibilities
Provide nursing care to patients within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing; prepare patients for physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners; administer medications via subcutaneous, intramuscular, intradermal, subdermal, and/or oral methods.
Take temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure; apply and change dressings; care for wounds; collect specimens for laboratory analysis; assist physicians, registered nurses, and mid‑level providers with examinations, tests, respiratory care, and minor surgical procedures, including PAP smears and colposcopies.
Perform venipuncture and injections, including biological immunizations for pediatrics and adults; conduct Tuberculin, Coccidioidin, and Histoplasmin skin tests as part of tuberculosis control programs.
Document care within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing; maintain accurate medical records, charge tickets, and clinical reports; review charts to determine treatment needs and ensure appropriate scheduling.
Advise and educate patients on health care methods; schedule clinic appointments per policies; refer patients for specialty care to outside agencies; ensure proper referrals per payor source.
Assist with administration of special treatments, examinations, intravenous therapy, and maintain medical records as per Nurse Practice Act policies.
Collect data, prepare and implement patient care plans, and participate in patient education and rehabilitation programs.
Observe patient condition and behavior, reporting significant changes to the supervisor.
Act as a nursing leader over health services assistants, certified medical assistants, office assistants, and other LVNs as assigned.
Qualifications
At least one year of successful experience as an LVN, preferably in a public health clinic environment.
Knowledge of current principles, techniques, and procedures within the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing; medical terminology, acute care procedures, and equipment; medication administration and relevant policies.
Ability to perform vocational nursing duties competently, follow policies and procedures, and maintain effective relationships with healthcare team members.
Licenses and Certificates
California Vocational Nurse's License issued by the California Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technician Examiners.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Crisis Prevention Intervention certificate (issued through internal training).
Work Schedule Three 12‑hour shifts, from 7:00 am to 7:30 pm.
