Registered Nurse, ICU Registered Nurse (ICU) provides direct, critical care to adult patients in a 6‑bed intensive care unit, performing nursing interventions such as medication administration, clinical treatments, and patient monitoring. The role involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care, support patient and family education, and advocate for the patient’s physical and emotional well‑being. The nurse must be skilled in managing ventilators, critical drips, and perform advanced life support, holding required certifications and licensure.

Position Summary The ICU is a 6‑bed unit that provides direct patient care to critically ill adult patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.

Responsibilities

Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care treatment.

Documents patient care given.

Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.

Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.

Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.

Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.

Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well‑being of the patient.

Floats to other departments as needed to maintain safe nurse‑to‑patient ratios.

Manages ventilators, CPAP/BIPAP, vapotherms.

Titers and maintains critical drips on the ICU patient, including knowledge of indications, contraindications, and side effects.

Passes a rhythm recognition test within 90 days of hire/transfer.

Minimum Qualifications Education

Associate’s degree required

Bachelor’s degree preferred

Certifications

Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 1 year of hire

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 1 year of hire

Handle with Care to be received within 30 days of orientation and kept annually

License

Registered Nurse licensed to work in the state of Kentucky
