Summary
The ASPCA’s Community Medicine (CM) team provides expert veterinary care to support animals and their people through stationary and mobile clinics in underserved communities across New York, Miami, and Los Angeles. By offering subsidized basic and preventive care, we help pet owners overcome financial barriers and ensure dignity and respect for both pets and owners.
What You’ll Do As the Licensed Veterinary Technician Staff and Floor Manager at the Community Veterinary Clinic (CVC), you will support high‑volume spay–neuter surgery and primary pet care. Your responsibilities include directing floor workflow, assisting the veterinarian with treatments, and communicating with clients to deliver high‑quality care to pets in the ASPCA service areas. You will coordinate with the CVC management team to optimize day‑to‑day operations and enhance our impact on community animal welfare.

Compensation Starting pay will depend on education, training, experience, location, and other factors. The target hiring range for this role is
$44.24 – $46.64 per hour . A signing bonus of $3,500 and a retention bonus of $3,500 after one year of service are also available.
Work Schedule and Location
Typical Monday‑Friday 8‑hour schedule; occasional flexibility beyond the scheduled day may be required.
On‑site position at the Community Veterinary Clinic.
Responsibilities Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following.
Medical/Floor Management Veterinary Technology
Perform a broad range of technician functions: venipuncture, anesthesia monitoring, surgical prep and assistance, diagnostics, pharmacy, and patient recovery.
Work side by side with veterinarians, assistants, and technicians to support HQHVSN and PPC for cats and dogs.
Use low‑stress, gentle animal‑handling techniques for a safe, compassionate environment.
Communicate effectively with clients using a kind, non‑judgmental approach; assist with intake, obtain history, and discharge patients.
Floor Management
Oversee floor workflow and ensure efficient use of staff time to maximize patient care.
Be a consistent, visible presence, answering questions, adjusting schedules, offering support, and fostering commitment to ASPCA’s mission.
Ensure staff delivers high‑quality patient care and follows SOPs and guidelines.
Coach nursing staff in low‑stress handling and behavioral support principles.
Coach staff in effective client communication and non‑judgmental information gathering.
Ensure compliance with DEA and CM protocols for controlled‑drug handling; monitor drug logs and report issues.
Enforce mandatory rest and meal breaks; adhere to time‑attendance guidelines.
Training
Train and onboard new nursing team members, including hands‑on skills and weekly online modules.
Monitor and assess trainees’ progress, providing developmental feedback and coaching.
Assist with training rotating interns, residents, veterinary and technical students.
People Management & Operations
Serve on the CVC Leadership Team.
Support a culture of kindness, respect, belonging, and teamwork through 1:1s, recognition, coaching, performance evaluation, and feedback.
Work with leadership to achieve daily clinic goals.
Lead a culture of safety and security; report incidents and address root causes.
Assist with hiring new staff and scheduling nursing coverage.
Manage team time and attendance; review timesheets and approve time‑off requests.
Facilitate daily huddles to keep staff informed.
Meet regularly with the CVC management team to discuss solutions when issues arise.
Attend required workshops or meetings.

Education and Work Experience
Graduated from an accredited veterinary science technology program (2‑ or 4‑year) or equivalent per NY State.
Minimum five years as a Registered Veterinary Technician in small animal medicine and surgery; experience in shelter medicine or high‑volume spay–neuter strongly preferred.
Minimum two years people‑management experience.
Qualifications
Current New York State Veterinary Technician License.
Ability to work well within a team and communicate with all staff levels.
Desire to serve clients in a kind, helpful, and non‑judgmental manner.
Thrives in a fast‑paced, challenging environment.
Strong interest in animal welfare and serving underserved communities.
Excellent animal‑handling skills.
Can lift and carry 40‑plus pounds repeatedly with assistance.
