Summary This position is located at the Fort Bliss Veterinary Treatment Facility.

Incentives and Bonuses Incentives will not be paid.

Duties

Serves as the clinic Veterinarian performing wellness appointments on a population of privately‑owned animals and advising owners on proper immunizations and disease prevention.

Examine animals, treat diseases and injuries, conduct surgeries and perform administrative duties such as maintaining legal medical health records.

Collect body tissue, feces, blood, urine and other body fluids for examination and diagnostic testing.

Performs and interprets laboratory findings and issues health certificates.

Provides direction and oversight to Animal Health Assistants regarding veterinary nursing skills, veterinary medical standards and animal care.

A one‑year probationary period may be required.

Must not have an aversion to animals, blood, bodily fluids, animal tissues, strong odors, needles or sharp instruments.

Must be able to stand for long periods, restrain animals, kneel, reach, etc.

Ability to obtain/renew USDA/APHIS accreditation within the first 60 days of employment.

Ability to work occasional Saturdays for special events – as needed by management.

A successful background investigation submission to the DCSA must be met no later than 30 calendar days after entry on duty or placement in the position for internal candidates.

Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability determination.

Physical requirements: Ability to lift animals and supplies up to 45 pounds, and on occasion greater than 45 pounds with help of others. Long periods of standing, walking, restraining, kneeling, and reaching, etc.

Physical requirements: Must have use of fingers; both hands and both legs are required; position requires exposure to intermittent excessive noise.

Qualifications Resumes must be two pages (or less). Resumes should clearly demonstrate the applicant's relevant experience, skills, knowledge and abilities as they pertain to this position.

Possess a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or an equivalent degree , i.e., Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), obtained at a school or college of veterinary medicine accredited by the AVMA Council on Education.

Possess a valid unrestricted state license to practice veterinary medicine

(may be a valid state license from any US state).

Official transcripts must be provided prior to time of hire. Unofficial college/university transcripts may be uploaded for initial qualification screening.

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified":

Possess active USDA/APHIS accreditation.

Education Foreign Education:

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited US education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a US accredited college or university.

Additional Information Area of Consideration

This job is open to candidates who are in the local commuting area defined as El Paso County, TX and surrounding area within a 50‑mile radius. Candidates outside this area can also be considered if they are able to commute daily or are willing to relocate at their own expense.

Salary Information Salary is pro‑rated based on a 40‑hour work week. Hourly salary is: NF‑04 $47.92ph to $55.10ph ($100,000pa to $115,000pa).

PCS Costs

Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest.

Allowances and Differentials

This job is part of a pay‑banded system. Sunday premium pay for regularly scheduled employees and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander.

Non‑foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA) and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
