AVECCC (Arizona Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Center) is a 24‑hour veterinary emergency and critical care and specialty center in Gilbert, AZ. We have the most skilled doctors in the state and provide significantly complex treatments in the western US. Job Purpose The purpose of the Veterinary Technician Supervisor is to provide high quality medical support and nursing care to companion animal patients in addition to providing top leadership and oversight to the technicians, supports the emergency veterinarians and assists the organization of the daily workflow of the hospital.
Duties & Responsibilities Training
In collaboration of the Lead Training Coordinator, assists in the development of training protocols and procedures to ensure existing technical staff as well as new staff members are onboarded efficiently and effectively
Interview potential new technicians and technician assistant candidates
Technician and technician assistant staff leveling and reviews
Review leveling criteria and benchmarks for employee advancement per hospital protocol
Performs mid and annual formal performance reviews per hospital protocol for technicians and technician assistants
Lead the veterinary technician team by example
Acts a mentor for technical staff with particular focus on Technician Leads
Ensure appropriate medical techniques are being utilized
Ensure that employees are demonstrating positive customer service to all clients
Provide feedback to the Senior Leadership Team if any corrective action or coaching is needed for any employee.
Follow up on coaching to ensure it is being implemented.
Document training and coaching sessions.
Communication
Schedule, plan, and conduct bi-weekly Technician Lead meetings
Advanced agenda of meetings provided to leadership team
Ensure that the Skill of the Week topics discussed during these meetings are disseminated to the rest of the staff
Quarterly/bi‑annual check‑in meetings with technicians and technician assistants
Participate in regular team meetings with Leadership Team to:
Identify areas for improvement within the company
Ensure consistent messages are being disseminated to employees
Increase knowledge of supervisory and leadership skills
Develop a cohesive team with other members of the Leadership Team
Assist with monitoring offices and hospital areas and ensure compliance with duties. Notify Assistant Hospital Manager if proper policies are not being followed or duties not being completed
Lab – meets regularly with Lab Officer to ensure equipment is properly maintained and there is always an adequate quantity of supplies
Radiology – collaborate with Radiology Officer to ensure that radiation safety protocols are enforced and radiology badges are properly managed
Equipment – collaborate with Equipment Manager to ensure:
Broken equipment and supplies are properly addressed
Surgery – collaborate with Equipment Manager to ensure equipment is properly maintained and there are adequate supplies
Train staff to properly clean and wrap surgical packs
Ensure surgical suite is properly stocked, cleaned, and maintained at all times
Isolation
Kept clean and stocked
Collaborate with Equipment Manager to ensure equipment and supplies are properly maintained and functioning
Engagement
Identify and solicit opportunities for growth within the technical staff
Identify areas of personal strength and weakness that may enhance or hinder job performance
Actively seek out staff members who may be disengaged and intervene as necessary to improve staff retention
Use engagement survey results to assess and implement adjustments as necessary
Fully competent regarding organizational policies and procedures
Involved in the develop and implementation of new policies and SOP as relevant
Establishes and reinforces a supportive team environment
Discourages negative attitudes, gossip
Leads by example
Seeks out and participates in leadership development and advancement opportunities
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending CEs, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal and professional networks, etc
Acts in a solution‑oriented manner to advocate and improve any deficiencies in the hospital.
Hospital Operations
Assists with resolving client needs, concerns, and complaints where appropriate
Maintain and perform scheduling for the technical staff
Ensure appropriate staffing levels and assist Hospital Manager to fill schedule openings
This is a full time position, must work a minimum of 36 hours a week, no less than 4 shifts per week, and could be expected to be available to help on all shifts if needed
Scheduled time is split between training, communication, and engagement duties with each being equally important

Able to properly restrain dog and cat patients for veterinary care and procedures
