Position Title: Aquatics/Safety‑Lifeguard

Job Summary/Basic Function Campus Recreation Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring the safety of participants utilizing the Swenson pool on the WSU campus. The Lifeguard provides quality customer service to aquatic participants and serves as a resource for department and program information.
Duties include: scanning and patrolling pool areas for safety; providing care in the case of an emergency or injury; enforcing facility and program policies; providing feedback to participants; encouraging participation in department programs; providing solid communication to supervisor and co‑workers; providing daily upkeep and maintenance of office and pool facilities; and being a supportive team player.
**This is a pooled position. Applicants are selected from the pool as positions become available. After a period of time the pool will expire and applicants will be notified.
Required Qualifications
American Red Cross Lifeguarding/CPR and AED for the Professional Rescuer/First Aid are required prior to working the first shift.
Must possess excellent interpersonal communication and relational service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
High School diploma.
Prefer previous lifeguard experience.
Prefer work‑study candidates.
Physical Activity of this Position Bending legs at knee to rest on knee or knees; bending the body downward and forward; extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction; standing, particularly for sustained periods; moving about to accomplish tasks for long distances; operating, activating, using, preparing, inspecting, placing, detecting, or positioning; grasping; feeling; expressing or exchanging ideas; receiving detailed information with or without assistance.
Physical Requirements of this Position Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
Visual Acuity Requirements Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision. Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading.
The Conditions the Worker Will Be Subject To The worker is subject to vibration. Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.
