Temporary position beginning in mid-February 2026****

Summary The Radiographer, under the supervision of the Radiology Supervisor, performs diagnostic x‑ray examinations taking into consideration all specific age groups as well as known disease and prepares necessary supplies accordingly. The Radiographer performs front desk duties; x‑ray aide duties; performs darkroom duties; is responsible for the observation of radiation safety practices; performs miscellaneous related duties; performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Perform diagnostic x‑ray examinations as ordered by the physician according to routine view outlined in the policy/procedure manual (40%).

Perform high quality radiographic examinations and other related procedures with accurate positioning, proper technique and maximum detail; provide proper radiation protection (40%).

Perform excellent patient care procedures and techniques to comply with departmental standards (20%).

Other Duties and Responsibilities

Is responsible for the observance of radiation safety practices.

Performs duties of an x‑ray aide and clerk as needed.

Works collaboratively with other health team members and enhances working relationships.

Demonstrates a positive, courteous, and helpful attitude to others.

Maintains a professional appearance, adheres to the dress code, and wears the appropriate ID badge.

Consistently strives to exceed the customer’s expectations and promotes patient satisfaction.

Is familiar with and participates in performance improvement activities.

Regularly attends department meetings and in‑services; if unable to attend, keeps abreast of changes through review of minutes, posttests, or other mechanisms of validation.

Participates in competency offerings and successfully meets competency requirements.

Performs computer tomography studies following protocol.

Is able to differentiate between normal and abnormal anatomy and will tailor exams in accordance with patient history obtained, protocol, and radiologist instructions.

Administers IV and oral contrast as required for procedures according to protocols.

Follows department protocol and institution guidelines for delivery of IV contrast material.

Monitors patient physical and mental condition throughout the entire procedure.

Records all patient data.

Performs daily QC of bone density unit, obtains and documents patient history pertaining to medications and bone history, and is knowledgeable of detailed anatomy and abnormalities of the forearm, lumbar vertebrae and femur.

Certifications and Licensures

BLS: Basic Life Support (within 1 month of hire or transfer, essential)

ARRT: Reg Radiologic Technologist (must be credentialed within one year of hire or transfer, essential)

Required Education Associate (ASSOC) with specialization in RADIO.

Experience, Training and Skills

Prior CT experience.

Mandatory tuberculosis (TB) testing as required.

Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.

Physical/Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions

Exposure to stressful situations, including public contact, trauma, grief and death.

Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.

Must be able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.

Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted devices.

Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time; may require frequent postural changes (stooping, kneeling or crouching).

Some exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious material; must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.

Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.

Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling; may require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

Physical demand level: Light. Must be able to occasionally (0–33% of the workday) lift or carry 11–20 lbs., frequently (34–66% of the workday) 10 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls.
