Job Title: Operating Engineer for a Chief Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Operating Engineer who will operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair facility equipment across all systems. The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical expertise in one craft area such as Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, or Central Utility Plant Operations, while being multi-skilled in other areas to successfully complete daily and weekly work assignments.
Responsibilities
Perform maintenance, monitoring, and repairs on Mechanical, Plumbing, Structural, Furniture, Fire Life Safety, and Control systems to ensure the facility and building systems meet applicable standards.
Maintain responsibility for facility services, preventative maintenance, purchasing and inventory control, contracted maintenance, general maintenance, and technical proficiency.
Conduct maintenance of equipment, including cleaning, inspecting, calibrating, and changing parts to maintain HVAC systems and associated equipment at optimum performance levels.
Record readings and make necessary adjustments to ensure proper operation of equipment.
Comply with departmental policy for the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials, and maintain a clean and safe workplace.
Perform periodic checks of tool and instrument inventory.
Monitor the quality and pricing of maintenance work performed by outside contractors.
Comply with all safety procedures and maintain good housekeeping and safety of work areas, recognizing danger and safety hazards, and proposing methods to eliminate them.
Essential Skills
High School Diploma or Equivalent
10 years of experience in maintaining and repairing commercial building systems
Ability to analyze the operation of Commercial or Industrial Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and HVAC systems, determine the cause of any problems/malfunctions, and take corrective action
EPA 608 Type II Certification
Working knowledge of computer applications, including Word and Excel
Additional Skills & Qualifications
EPA 608 Universal Certification is preferred
Two years of trades schooling in electrical system design, refrigeration, and HVAC
Previous chief engineer management or higher education experience is a plus
