Responsibilities
Work in a team environment to develop contract documents, including construction drawings and technical specifications
Apply engineering principles pertaining to and in support of the detailed plans and construction documents for roadways and bridges under the guidance of senior engineers
Actively mentor and provide guidance to less experienced staff
Progress and evaluate design details for bridge and culvert projects
Develop contract drawings using MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
Construct models and perform calculations using various software and/or hand calculations
Review and provide Quality Control (QC) for project engineering deliverables
Interface with other technical disciplines
Develop cost estimates for construction documents
Attend project meetings and participate in project site visits when required
Qualifications
BS Civil Engineering from an accredited university
New York State Professional Engineer (PE) required or ability to obtain
Master of Science with a concentration in structural/bridge engineering a plus
5 + years of meaningful experience related to bridge engineering design
Shall be self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, organized, and eager to learn and grow professionally
Prepare design criteria using relevant codes and standards
Competent use of relevant software such as MS Office
Preliminary and final design plan production experience
Bridge load rating experience an additional benefit
Experience with computer drafting and structural analysis software
Familiarity with AASHTO and NYSDOT Standard Specifications
Good writing and communication skills a plus
Requirements Minimum Requirements
Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
