Job Overview
At Sumter Maintenance, performs diagnostic and repairs on equipment and vehicles to include but not limited to electrical, mechanical, etc. to ensure equipment is operational with a quick repair to ensure maximum production. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and vehicles in accordance with SCDOT Preventive Maintenance policy. Repairs all trailers and performs maintenance on all equipment for unit.
Responsibilities
Checks, adjusts, and repairs air brakes and components.
Answers service calls in the field on equipment that is broken down.
Maintains shop and shop equipment for cleanliness and safety.
Assists with welding repairs on equipment.
Works shop operations during inclement weather and or emergencies.
Qualifications
One and one-half (1.5) years of work experience that the independent performance of job duties directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
Completion of one (1) academic year of a South Carolina High School Automotive Technology or Diesel Engine curriculum may substitute for six (6) months of directly-related experience.
Required Licenses and Certifications
A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required upon entry to the position.
Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
Physical Demands The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires working in a large garage setting and may perform duties in an uncomfortable position for long periods of time. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
Work Schedule
May be required to work overtime, nighttime, and/or weekends during hazardous weather or emergencies.
May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies.
