Job Description
The Instructor / Check Airman Pilot is an essential resource in maintaining the professional standards and readiness of the pilot team. It conducts evaluations, training, and certifications, ensuring pilots meet operational and regulatory requirements. This position provides leadership in training and development while reinforcing safety and excellence in every aspect of flight operations.
Essential Functions
Conducts pilot proficiency checks, evaluations, and initial operating experience (IOE) in accordance with FAA regulations and company policies.
Delivers flight and ground instruction to pilots for initial, recurrent, and upgrade training programs.
Assesses pilot performance and provides constructive feedback to improve skills and ensure compliance.
Develops and updates training materials, lesson plans, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Collaborates with the Chief Pilot to address training needs and operational improvements.
Serves as a mentor to pilots, promoting professional growth and development.
Participates in safety programs by identifying risks, recommending mitigations, and reinforcing best practices.
Maintains accurate training records, evaluations, and other documentation required by regulatory agencies and company standards.
Assists in the recruitment and onboarding of new pilots by conducting evaluations and interviews.
Acts as a subject matter expert during regulatory audits and inspections.

Minimum Qualifications
FAA Certifications:
Commercial Pilot Certificate or an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate; appropriate helicopter or airplane rating
Current FAA Second-Class Medical Certificate (or higher)
Instrument Rating – Helicopter
Flight Experience (minimum) for VFR Program and IFR Program:
VFR / IFR 2,000 hours of total flight time
VFR / IFR 100 hours of unaided night flight time
VFR 100 hours (IFR 500 hours) of cross-country flight experience (25 hours at night)
IFR 75 actual or simulated instrument hours (50 must be in actual flight)
Miscellaneous
VFR / IFR Pass a part 14 CFR 135.293 check ride within the first 60 days of hire
IFR Pass a part 14 CFR 139.297 instrument proficiency ride within 12 months of hire
Preferred Qualifications
HAA experience
300 flight hours at night
Night Vision Goggle experience
Flight Instructing experience
Ability to sit for extended periods in an aircraft cockpit
Capability to perform pre-flight and post-flight inspections, which may involve climbing, kneeling, crouching, or stooping
Must meet FAA medical standards for physical and mental fitness, as verified by a current FAA Medical Certificate
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, as required for handling equipment or luggage
Tolerance for varying environmental conditions, including exposure to heat, cold, and noise during aircraft operations #medtransport
