The Outpatient Pharmacy Supervisor - plans - directs - and coordinates outpatient pharmacy services
The incumbent provides first-line supervision to pharmacists - technicians - residents - students - and volunteers assigned to the outpatient pharmacy and coordinates other programs pertaining to pharmacy within the medical center
The Outpatient Pharmacy Supervisor represents Pharmacy Service in the Medical Center and in the community
Functions of the Position The incumbent serves as a supervisor for the outpatient pharmacy staff - assuring that all pharmacy programs are maintained in accordance with accepted standards of professional care
Incumbent performs scheduled staffing daily with time allotted for meetings and administrative tasks
Provides direct supervision to the pharmacists - technicians - students - and volunteers assigned to the outpatient pharmacy
The incumbent will approve or disapprove leave requests - write functional and position descriptions and performance standards - evaluate employees - formulate work schedules - recommend personnel actions
Interviews employee candidates - recommends appointments - special advancements - within-grade increases - or disciplinary actions to the Professional Standards Board or the Chief - Pharmacy Service as appropriate
Manages the daily operation of the outpatient pharmacy including the window and mail prescription dispensing - repackaging - and extemporaneous compounding
Designs and implements drug conversions within the outpatient pharmacy
Manages and ensures optimum utilization of all resources (personnel - fiscal - equipment - space - etc.) available to the outpatient pharmacy section
Manages and ensures optimum efficiency and effectiveness of the numerous complex - and comprehensive programs administered by the outpatient pharmacy section
Develops and implements new programs - or coordinates appropriate changes in existing programs - as necessary - to enhance customer services - achieve quality improvement - or advance pharmaceutical care
Responsible for initiating and maintaining performance improvement activities - in order that pharmacy processes may be continually evaluated for opportunities for improvement
Actively participates in medical center medication event reporting system - Joint Patient Reporting System (JPSR) and providing research and improvement/prevention ideas as a follow up to the event
Chairs - prepares Agenda and minutes when assigned for the Pharmacist and Technician staff meetings
Ensures the timeliness of orders
Enters or completes provider orders in VISTA for medications in assigned area - carefully screening each order for therapeutic appropriateness and policy compliance
Consults orally and in writing with other health-care providers regarding drug therapy selection and management
Resolves all medication related problems in a timely manner
Participates as a member of the health care team in an interdisciplinary approach to provide quality patient care
Creatively and constructively helps to implement the actions of the P&T Committee or other applicable committees
Preferred Experience: 2 years management experience - evidence of project management skills - Cerner/Oracle systems experience - knowledge of VA systems and processes
Work Schedule: Nights - 1400 - 2230 - Monday - Friday Compressed/Flexible: Available Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position
