Core Position: Pipefitter – HII Platform Modernization (PM) We are seeking a Pipefitter who will support PM teams on active class surface ships, submarines, and shore‑based facilities. You’ll work closely with skilled trades teams to remove, install, and upgrade industrial equipment, assisting with alterations and installations for fleet modernization on various contracts. Weekend and/or overtime hours may be required based on contract awards.

They must demonstrate silver brazing ability on needed processes through qualification testing and pass with a satisfactory grade from our Quality Assurance Team within the first three weeks of employment.

Selected candidates will travel to shipyards and military bases in the U.S. and abroad. Per diem is provided, and travel and lodging expenses are covered.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Display levels of quality, integrity, safety, respect, engagement and performance consistent with company values.

Support trades team by working on active class vessels to assist with alterations and installations for fleet modernization.

Perform all work in accordance with established quality and safety procedures.

Perform a variety of simple and complicated tasks, both routine and non‑routine, including those outside of specialty, related to shipboard maintenance to meet standards on various contracts at company, customer and/or field locations.

Work from blueprints, engineering sketches, charts, or work orders.

Lay out and mark points and lines on pipe, tubing and parts or subassemblies using rule, square, scribe or templates.

Cut, fit, assemble, bend, and position pipe, tubing and support structures to be brazed or welded into jigs, holding fixtures, and existing structures using hand and powered tools.

Apply comprehensive understanding of production and processes, specialty trades functions and tools to provide technical support, install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify shipboard systems, integrated systems and related equipment at company, customer and/or field locations.

Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions to eliminate problems in minimum time.

Participate in special projects as required.

Develop and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports.

Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications.

Provide guidance and work leadership to less‑experienced welders. May serve as a group leader.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have high school education or trade school or equivalent, and 4 years of related experience. Prefer technical/professional certifications.

Must be able to obtain medical clearance to wear a half‑face respirator.

Must have knowledge and experience with standard pipe‑fitting procedures, bending processes for tubing and pipe, testing installed piping systems and Class P‑3a and P‑3b silver brazing processes according to NAVSEA Tech Pub 7000 and NAVSEA Standard Item 009‑12.

Must have strong knowledge of reading and interpreting drawings, blueprints, weldments, technical manuals, engineering sketches, charts and/or work orders as well as written and verbal instruction for products to be fabricated and/or installed.

Must be able to work from blueprints, weldments, technical manuals, engineering sketches, charts and/or work orders as well as written and verbal instruction.

Must be able to work outside of trade‑specific requirements as team projects require, assisting team members toward task completion.

Must have knowledge of quality control steps and procedures; must enforce safety procedures.

Must have experience working in a team environment and communicate effectively with others.

Must obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance and maintain clearance level throughout employment.

Must obtain base access credentials within 60 days of start date and maintain credentials throughout employment.

Must travel 50% – 75% when not assigned to local tasking.

Must provide hand tools and trade‑specific PPE per trade designation.

Preferred Requirements

Current or prior silver brazing qualification certificates Grade III, IV and/or V preferred.

Candidates with current or prior welding certificates applicable with MIL‑STD‑248 preferred.

Candidates who are currently enrolled or have graduated from and/or completed a vocational school or skilled trades certificate program are preferred.

Current Shipyard Competent Person Certification preferred.

Current OSHA 10 Maritime Certificate a plus.

Physical Requirements Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes—no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Must perform other duties as required such as high heat, humidity, noise, and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels, may ride ships at sea for extended periods, may require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside the continental United States.
