Design Engineer III – Hydraulic Valves & Mechanisms

We have an immediate opening for a Hydraulics Design Engineer to support the Marine product line.
Purpose & Scope The Design Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager and is responsible for applying the principles and theories of science, engineering, and mathematics to solve technical problems in design, manufacturing, research & development, sales, inspection, and maintenance. The employee in this role will collaborate with peers within all the key business units to provide a robust & timely solution to the customers’ current and future design challenges.
Enhance your technical skills while working closely with management and the rest of the team on multiple projects.
Perform engineering analysis (stress, FEA, fatigue) and apply problem‑solving methods to support new product development and/or sustaining production of existing designs.
Create & review new designs for conformance to customer requirements & proper application of engineering principles.
Apply, evaluate, and optimize Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to facilitate inspection and manufacturing.
Write & review test plans and test reports in support of new programs to demonstrate compliance to customer specifications.
Interact with customers to clarify design intent and technical requirements.
Maintain accurate, orderly project records, including design and test data, customer specifications, directives, etc.
Develop technical proposals, cost estimates & schedules for non‑recurring engineering activities.
Direct fellow engineers as well as designers & drafters in design concepts and optimization to meet strict deadlines.
Serve as technical lead on development and qualification test programs.
Direct others and serve as engineering representative on the Material Review Board (MRB) to facilitate disposition of non‑conforming product.
Required Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
5+ years engineering experience in any/all aspects of a product’s lifecycle – from initial design phase, through procurement and testing of a prototype, transition to production phase, and involvement in long‑term product support.
A lower level of experience combined with an advanced degree may be considered.
Proficiency with finite element analysis (FEA), ANSYS preferred.
Proficiency with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance analysis.
Proficiency with fatigue analysis, fastener analysis, and material & process control.
Proficiency with 3D modeling software (Pro/Engineer or CREO preferred).
Previous experience with Design Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
Excellent writing, presentation, communication, and organizational skills.
Self‑starter who demonstrates a sense of urgency in meeting customer expectations and delivering results.
Ability to investigate, diagnose and resolve complex technical problems and communicate in clear, simple terms.
Attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of this position.
Preferred Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience Highly Valued – Work experience directly related to hydraulic and/or electromechanical component design and/or manufacture & test (servos, actuators, control valves, manifolds, etc.).
Highly Valued – Familiarity with electronic and/or hydraulic control system design.
Substantial ANSYS and CREO experience.
Substantial solid mechanics background.
Proficiency with MATLAB, Simulink similar coding languages.
Proficiency with common machining practices and/or metal forming methods & processes.
Electrical and/or Mechanical hands‑on aptitude displayed through personal hobbies/projects.
Previous experience with DFMEA for new designs.
Due to ITAR regulations, this position requires that the employee must be a U.S. Citizen.
Quality Requirement Employees will participate in understanding, implementing and maintaining the Company Quality Policy in accordance with AS‑9100 and/or ISO‑9001 requirements.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions The employee will be required to move throughout the building to collect, handle and process production parts.
