Under minimal supervision, performs basic to complex diagnostic radiographic procedures, as requested by a licensed physician. Exercises professional judgment in providing health care services, applying x-ray energy, to assist in diagnosis or treatment of patients in all age groups from newborn to elderly.

Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.

General Functions

Produces high quality diagnostic radiographs, by selecting and operating appropriate radiographic equipment, and advanced diagnostic procedures

Practices aseptic techniques as necessary, understands methods of venipuncture and other sterile techniques, in agreement with state statutes and/or where institutional policy permits, prepares, identifies and/or administers contrast media as prescribed by a licensed practitioner

Rotates through advanced areas of diagnostic radiology to include procedures in arthrography, evaluates images for technical quality, assuring proper identification and procedure is recorded

Assists practitioner with fluoroscopy, arthrography

Department/Business Unit Functions

Provides communication to patient for instructions and history in order to obtain desired results, gain cooperation and minimize anxiety

Assumes responsibility for provision of physical safety and psychological needs of the patient during procedures

Positions patients to best demonstrate anatomical areas of interest as requested, respecting patients’ ability, comfort and safety. Checks to ask about pregnancy and LMP

Implements protective measures to prevent patient injury due to thermal, electrical, mechanical, laser, chemical and radiation sources

Provides practical instruction, evaluation and precepting for students and/or other healthcare professionals

Assumes responsibility for assigned areas, quality control of equipment and reports equipment malfunction

Assures environment of working area, equipment and accessories are kept neat and clean

Initiates anecdotal, incident, contrast agent variance and accident reports in a timely manner

Performs related duties such as transporting patients, film processing and film filing as needed

Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively

Maintains safe environment

Addresses patient population-specific needs

Required Skills MINIMUM EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 1 year in diagnostic radiography

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Possession of current Texas State registration. Possession of American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, in Radiography or registry eligible. Must have ARRT within one year post graduation of accredited school

REQUIRED COURSES/ COMPLETIONS (e.g., CPR): BLS-Obtained through approved American Heart Association Training Center or the Military Training Network
