Job Overview
Leigh Orthopedic Surgery Center is offering an excellent opportunity for an experienced Certified Surgical Assistant to join the team at our state‑of‑the‑art facility in the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area. The Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) works as a 1st or 2nd assistant to the surgeon and, under the direction and supervision of that surgeon, may perform specific significant surgical tasks.
Key Responsibilities Demonstrates skills required by role as a Surgical Assistant including: complete knowledge of instruments, equipment, and supplies, as well as proper use and sterile technique; knowledge of anatomical structures; assistance in patient positioning and use of positioning devices to protect the patient and promote optimal exposure; ability to perform local anesthesia injections; anticipation, listening, and assistance under the surgeon’s supervision; creation and maintenance of a sterile field; patient care that supports protection from harm and physical functioning; verification of medications, injections, labels, operative procedure, operative site, and all allergies with the surgeon and/or applicable RN support; commitment to a healthy work environment by modeling desired behaviors and encouraging others; coping with and managing change effectively and helping others do the same; clear understanding of applicable regulations for patient care; adherence to exposure control plans for bloodborne and airborne pathogens; respect for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees; and ensuring a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
Work Hours 6:45 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., no call, no weekends, or holidays.
Operating Rooms and Surgeries
# of Operating Rooms: 3, with a 4th slated to open in December
# of surgeries per day: 12/day
Top 3 selling points: Top notch surgeons, state‑of‑the‑art facility, high clinical standards
Interview process: Interview with the OR lead, SA lead, Clinical Director, and Administrative Director, possibly surgeon, tour of facility (can do same day if desired)
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Surgical Assistant Program required, or holder of active certification by NBSTSA, NSAA, or ABSA in lieu of a CAAHEP SA program graduate.
Orthopedic service line experience required.
BLS required.
Must be able to work variable hours and flex with the surgical schedule and staffing needs.
Minimum of 2 years experience.
ASC experience preferred.
