The ALS Technical Partner is an EMT-P who assists in providing quality care both directly and indirectly to patients throughout their treatment course within the Emergency Department (ED). The ALS Technical Partner works in cooperation with the treatment team (providers, nurses, ancillary support, etc.) to provide professional care to patients seeking treatment in the ED. The ALS Technical Partner functions in adherence to established policies and procedures in a manner conducive to the safety and comfort of the patient. Participates in an individualized patient care plan as established by the treatment team. Implements orders/directives consistently, promptly, and accurately while being able to identify the purpose of each order/directive. Independently, within scope, performs clinical tasks and procedures. Assists with examinations, treatments, and procedures. Participates as a member of appropriate emergency response teams (dependent upon facility structure) including but not limited to RRTs, code blues, and trauma activations practicing within their EMT-P scope of practice to assist the team. Assists Registered Nurse in the transport of critically ill/injured patients and assists in monitoring respiratory status, endotracheal tube position, oxygenation, and ventilation. Serves as a department liaison for EMS, both air and ground. Ensures EMS equipment is properly taken care of including retrieval, cleaning, storage, and return to EMS agencies. Assists in restocking of EMS agencies. Assists in coordinating decontamination/mass casualty events. Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED Ability to assess needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families. Ability to document and communicate pertinent information using computer and/or paper documentation tools. Demonstrates age-specific competencies in the care of neonates, infants, toddlers, pre‑schoolers, school aged, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients. Knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions. Must be able to apply advance knowledge and training, developing and executing a plan of care, and rapidly intervene in life‑saving procedures. Lift and carry 40‑50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient’s weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8‑10 miles per shift. Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR. E E O Statement
