Position Title: Experienced RN - Registered Nurse - Outpatient Surgery - Pre op - Days
Department: Adult Outpatient Surgery
Location: University of Oklahoma Medical Center
Shift: Full time, 4:45a-3:15p

Registered Nurse positions at levels I, II, or III depending on experience and education.
RN I represents a novice or advanced beginner moving towards competence. The advanced beginner may have enough real experience to begin formulating principles.
Essential Responsibilities
Aligns behaviors with OU Health values and maintains nursing professional practice standards.
Assumes responsibility for an assigned patient or group of patients.
Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments, noting all changes in physician order.
Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment.
Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients, observes the physiological manifestations, and intervenes when necessary.
Administers medication as prescribed.
Initiates, regulates and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products.
Delivers patient care safely and competently.
Resolves patient complaints in a timely manner in accordance with policy.
Informs patient and family of hospital procedures and shares care plan during care and at discharge.
Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
Fosters a growth mindset through mentorship, feedback and maintaining professional certification.
Develops a professional career plan and establishes personal performance goals aligned with enterprise metrics.
Fosters an inclusive workforce where individual differences are valued and maximized.
Delegates tasks to clinical support staff as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
Experience:
0‑3 years of RN patient care experience.
License/Certification:
Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)).
Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
Minimum Qualifications (RN II) Education:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
Experience:
3‑5 years of RN patient care; must be in the area applied for.
License/Certification:
Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)).
Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
Minimum Qualifications (RN III) Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required. Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
Experience:
5+ years of RN patient care; must be in the area applied for.
License/Certification:
Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)).
Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Professional nursing theory, practices, techniques and procedures.
Organize, plan, coordinate and evaluate nursing services.
Maintain civility and good working relationships with staff.
Respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
Skilled in computer applications for patient quality and safety.
Advocate in the patient’s best interest and maintain integrity.
Engage and manage conflicts constructively.
Maintain compliance with regulatory standards.
Foster an inclusive workplace valuing diversity and difference.
Strong written and oral communication skills with candor and diplomacy.
General Description Under general supervision, provides nursing care in OUH’s specialty areas.
Essential Responsibilities (General)
Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients.
Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments; notes all changes in physician order.
Assists physician in examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment.
Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients; observes the physiological manifestations and intervenes when necessary.
Administers medication as prescribed.
Initiates, regulates and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products.
Delivers patient care competently.
Interacts with family and patient in sharing care plan while in the hospital and at time of discharge.
Oversees treatment provided by technicians or other service providers.
Informs patient and family of hospital procedures.
Makes referral regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
Delegates tasks to support staff.
General Responsibilities
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (General) Education:
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing required. Bachelor of Science (or higher) in Nursing Board Approved Program preferred.
Experience:
May require completion of orientation and ability to function independently in assigned specialty area prior to being assigned to this position.
License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required:
Current RN License issued by Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate compact RN License (eNLC). Current Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association required upon hire. ACLS required within 3 months of hire. PALS required within 6 months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (General) Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques and procedures. Ability to organize, plan, coordinate and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques. Ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors. Some computer skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a team providing excellent specialized care.
