ENTRY SALARY Construction Inspector I: $52,610.06

Construction Inspector II: $58,002.70

Under limited direction, the Construction Inspector II performs skilled and more complex inspection, evaluation, and review of all technical work involving the inspection of public works and commercial site construction for the City of Clearwater.

Essential Functions

Provides daily information and feedback to department heads regarding status of projects, work completed, and pictorial evidence of project status; visits job sites daily to confirm work, answer questions, and ensure quality.

Monitors, evaluates, and inspects the construction of public works projects, privately funded projects involving City sanitary, storm sewers, and water main construction in the City right-of-ways.

Monitors schedules for work progress including inspections, and other milestones; keeps schedules updated and maintained following project status and progress; prepares written daily inspection reports for various work assignment targets.

Performs constructability reviews of construction drawings at various stages in design for City capitol improvement projects; reviews specifications and bid forms for accuracy and clarity.

Serves as a liaison between project engineers and contractors, interprets City specifications to contractors, and keeps the project engineer informed of progress. Collaborates with contractors and recommends field design changes to accommodate unforeseen conditions.

Prepares, creates, and drafts monthly estimates of work to ensure all contractors are paid efficiently, timely, and within project completion timelines; reviews work for accuracy and transparency.

Responds to citizen's complaints regarding construction; provides information and direction to appropriate areas for resolution.

Performs customer service and other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Construction Inspector I:

High School Diploma, High School Equivalency or G.E.D. Certificate PLUS certificate supplemented by six (6) months vocational training of mathematics and one (1) year responsible experience in building, road, or water main construction and inspection; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Construction Inspector II:

High School Diploma, High School Equivalency Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate PLUS four (4) years experience in building, road, and water main construction and inspection or one (1) year of satisfactory performance as a Construction Inspector with the City of Clearwater; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
