Registered Nurse – Open Heart Recovery (Full-Time Days)

WVU Medicine Thomas Hospitals seeks a registered nurse to provide advanced nursing care in a high‑acuity inpatient setting. The RN will deliver evidence‑based patient care under the scope of the nursing process, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to promote quality outcomes and community health. Responsibilities

Modify patient care plans based on data collection and individual needs. Utilize Evidence‑Based Practice to guide patient care. Delegate tasks in accordance with scope of practice. Verify care plans with interprofessional colleagues, patient, and caregiver(s). Provide family education based on learning needs. Promote effective communication among interprofessional team members and consumers. Influence policy to promote safe patient care. Utilize appropriate resources in providing care, especially in sensitive situations. Incorporate processes to enhance organizational growth and influence. Participate in developing strategies to promote healthy communities and practice environments. Recognize strategies to improve nursing quality. Provide critical review and/or evaluation of policies, procedures, and guidelines to improve quality of healthcare. Demonstrate understanding of the importance of data collection and utilization. Disseminate educational findings, experiences, and ideas with peers. Engage in activities related to nurse sensitive indicators to enhance quality of care. Participate in continuing professional development. Identify ethical situations and seek assistance of appropriate colleagues. Identify ways to maintain and improve ethical environment of the work setting conducive to safe, quality health care. Adhere to the moral and legal rights of patients. Engage in opportunities for work/life balance. Qualifications

Current Registered Nurse license issued in West Virginia or a multi‑state RN license through the eNLC. Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire. Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience. Additional Requirements

Completion of annual specialty accreditation education as required for facilities with specialty accreditation. Physical Requirements

Minimize manual patient lifting; limit patient handling to 35 lbs whenever possible. Manual labor may include lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, carrying of materials and equipment weighing 40+ lbs. Visual acuity within normal range. Normal hearing required for assessment of breath sounds, bowel sounds, apical pulse, and monitors. Working Environment

Protracted or irregular hours. Exposure to biohazards, infectious diseases, and deceased patients. Work around water, electrical hazards associated with patient care equipment. Skills and Abilities

Positive, effective interpersonal communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution. Competent clinical practice and critical thinking to deliver efficient patient care with all health care providers maximizing resource use. Flexibility in response to changes in work volume, staff, and scheduling changes. Work successfully under highly stressful conditions and adapt to varying workloads and assignments consistently.
