This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA.

About the Position Serves as a Physician (Occupational Medicine) in a Defense Health Agency Military Treatment Facility.

Medical malpractice liability insurance is not required for federal civilian healthcare providers as they are covered by the Federal Tort Claims Act (28 U.S.C. § 1346(b)) while acting within the scope of their employment.

Duties

Performs occupational physical examinations of various types including pre-placement, medical surveillance, medical qualification, disability retirement, fitness for duty, and any other special employee examinations.

Develops and oversees medical surveillance and medical qualification programs.

Participates in performance improvement programs, risk management programs, and makes recommendations on improvement of work methods and organizational features.

Applies new procedures in the evaluation and treatment of complex work-related cases and conducts research for the advancement of the Occupational Medicine program and for quality improvement.

Coordinates with facility and community resources to provide comprehensive work-related care to employees.

Interprets ancillary test results for evidence of possible occupational disease or confounding personal health conditions.

Evaluates and treats on-the-job illnesses and injuries and stabilizes and transfers those suffering from urgent or potentially life-threatening illnesses and injuries. Assists in self-care transfer activities.

Requirements

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

This position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.

One year trial/probationary period may be required.

This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.

All applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.

This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.

Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).

This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.

Lifting up to 49 pounds may be required

This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

This position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as, on-call, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.

You may be expected to travel up to 5% for this position.
