Summary This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by assisting with clinical care, education and direction of their respective program. The Nurse Practitioner works in collaboration with a physician and other team members to provide care to patients and their families.
Job Description Job Duties
Performs and documents complete, system-focused, and/or symptom specific physical and psychosocial examination.
Manages diagnostic tests through ordering, performing, interpreting, and supervising in the assessment process.
Prescribes pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic interventions in collaboration with the supervising physician.
Assists with the management of the plan of care through the evaluation, modification, and documentation according to the patient's response to therapy, change in condition, and to therapeutic interventions to optimize patient outcomes.
Assesses the needs of families and caregivers.
Synthesizes data from a variety of sources to make clinical judgments and decisions about appropriate recommendations and treatments.
Initiates appropriate referrals and performs consultations.
Demonstrates leadership of the health care team through teaching, coaching, and supporting to advance plan of care.
Maintains current knowledge regarding state and federal regulations impacting ARNP practice.
Participates in call coverage specific to specialty
Ensures accurate billing and coding for services provided in the hospital and office
Communicates care plans and transitions of care to fellow providers in the team
Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.
Department Specific Duties NICU Providers:
Participates in staff education.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to apply critical analytic thought to patient care.
Ability to assist physicians and nursing staff with all procedures.
Strong leadership qualities.
Exceptional communication skills.
Strong commitment to excellence.
Professional Experience
Experience in the evaluation and management of patients in specialty area required.
Education Education sufficient to obtain required licensure.
Licensure, Certification, Registration
Currently licensed to practice as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in the state of Iowa required.
Iowa Dependent Adult & Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required. Employee must submit certification of completed training to Human Resources prior to start or transfer date.
