Job Description This is a senior‑level position in the Sponsored Research office with responsibility for negotiating, extending, administering, terminating, renegotiating, and monitoring a high volume of complex, inter‑disciplinary, and multi‑institution grant contracts and sub‑contracts. This position is also responsible for assisting departmental contacts such as faculty, Principal Investigators (PIs), and administrative staff with proposal preparation, large and complex project budgeting, and interpretation of agency/sponsor guidelines and regulations on these projects. The role assists departments and colleges in complying with grant administration policies, procedures, rules and regulations, and trains Sponsored Research Administrators. It differs from the SRA II position by managing a workload of increased complexity, serving as a backup to the Assistant Director, and assisting with SRA training.

Responsibilities

Assist and consult with faculty and PIs during the preparation and development of large, complex grant proposals for USF Centers and multidisciplinary projects.

Review proposals, provide recommendations, draft modifications, and interpret funding agency guidelines and regulations for unique scenarios. Ensure timely submission and compliance with federal and state regulations. Advise stakeholders on policy changes.

Set up and process awarded grants in enterprise systems, ensuring release of funds per award guidelines, reviewing contract terms, and managing IRB, IACUC, or biosafety considerations.

Act as liaison with PIs, faculty, and other grant staff regarding expenditure restrictions, contract amendments, extensions, and compliance matters.

Serve as backup to the Assistant Director, review submissions and documents for approval, assist other SRAs, and represent Sponsored Research at meetings, conferences, and committees.

Assist with training and onboarding of new SRAs, including hands‑on training for workload management.

Negotiate, draft, and review complex contracts, sub‑contracts, and amendments with sponsoring agencies, ensuring alignment with university guidelines and mission; consult with relevant offices to resolve outstanding matters.

Support the development of multi‑line budgets, budget projections, justifications, and determine appropriate salary levels, effort percentages, fringe benefits, and F&A rates.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and four years of research administration or related professional administrative experience; or Master’s degree and two years of related experience.

Progressively responsible related experience may substitute for required education on a year‑for‑year basis.

Degree Equivalency Clause: Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree.

The hiring salary range for this position is $56,000 - $77,900.
