The Carol Stream Public Library is seeking a full-time Facility Technician who is responsible for the maintenance of the Library and grounds, including preventative and corrective action performing repairs, making improvements, and completing maintenance projects. An important aspect is to provide a clean and safe environment while conveying a helpful and approachable demeanor to employees and patrons.

Full-time employees are enrolled in an IMRF pension plan and eligible to enroll in benefits including health plan (80% CSPL funded), dental (employee-only coverage paid for 100% by CSPL), and vision insurance; a retirement investment fund (pre-tax and Roth options), and flexible spending accounts. Full-time employees receive life insurance coverage of $30,000 and have an option to also enroll in supplemental life insurance. Paid time off accruals for full-time employees include 7 paid holidays, 3 Personal days, 2 Floating Holidays, 3 weeks of accrued Vacation, and 12 days of annually accrued Sick time.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform routine maintenance and repair of the Library building and grounds

Trouble shoot and problem solve facility issues

Prioritize tasks and projects for successful implementation

Address Maintenance Help Desk tickets

Coordinate and supervise all inspections and contractual services (preventative maintenance, installations, repairs of building infrastructure, etc.)

Obtain proposals and quotes from vendors/contractors and review with Library Director

Perform building opening procedures and monitor building for vandalism, safety and security purposes

Routinely inspect and perform custodial duties in the building meeting spaces, restrooms, common areas, and grounds, including supervision of the Custodian

Perform set up and take down of meeting rooms for scheduled Library events

Maintain inventory of supplies related to custodial and building maintenance

Assist with maintaining records of equipment repairs and building systems such as HVAC, sump pumps, and boilers

Oversee receipt of deliveries

Respond promptly to off-hours facility security and equipment alarms

Perform facility checks on Library Closing days

Make deliveries and run errands as needed

Act as a Security Monitor when needed and maintains awareness of all areas of the Library premises including the building, parking lot, and grounds.

Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent

Experience:

Three years’ experience in maintenance and building repair and their mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of current custodial and maintenance procedures and equipment

Knowledge of HVAC systems, plumbing, electricity and general carpentry

Knowledge of the appropriate tools and their use to perform tasks associated with facility repairs

Knowledge of fire code, OSHA and other safety regulations

Skilled in creative problem-solving

Proficient in time management and organizational skills

Ability to use initiative and independent judgment

Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team and independently with minimal direction

Ability to handle emergency situations in a calm, capable manner

Skilled in verbal, written and electronic communication

Proficient in using a personal computer and Microsoft Office Suite and effectively operates in a web-based environment

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

This position is very active and requires the ability to use the scissor lift, walk, bend, stoop, carry, reach, pull, push, climb ladders and stairs, and lift up to 70 pounds occasionally

Performs outdoor maintenance in varying temperature and inclement weather conditions

Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive throughout the community as required

Ability to report to the Library within 30 minutes for on-call emergencies

Hours 37.5 hours per week

7:00am - 3:00pm

Monday through Friday

$22.00 and up depending on qualifications and experience
