Respiratory Therapy Supervisor
Full-time, NIGHTS
The Respiratory Therapy Supervisor provides both clinical and operational leadership for the Respiratory Care Department during assigned night shifts. This role is responsible for delivering advanced respiratory care to routine and critically ill patients while supervising, supporting, and guiding respiratory therapy staff. The Supervisor ensures high‑quality patient care, effective staffing, productivity, and compliance with departmental and hospital standards. Reports to the Manager Respiratory Care / Director Cardiopulmonary.
Key Responsibilities
Perform routine and critical care respiratory therapy procedures, including mechanical ventilation and advanced respiratory support.
Supervise Respiratory Therapists on the assigned shift, including making patient and staff assignments.
Provide strong leadership, coaching, and guidance to team members; address performance concerns through feedback, coaching, and corrective action as needed.
Make timely, sound clinical and operational decisions in a fast‑paced environment.
Monitor quality of care through staff rounding, documentation audits, and direct observation.
Promote a positive, collaborative, and professional work environment focused on patient safety and service excellence.
Ensure appropriate utilization of staffing, equipment, and departmental resources to maintain productivity and efficiency.
Communicate effectively with physicians, nursing leaders, patients, families, and other interdisciplinary team members.
Document employee discussions, performance issues, and recommendations in accordance with hospital policy.
Identify opportunities for improvement and provide constructive suggestions to leadership to enhance patient care, departmental performance, and hospital operations.
Qualifications & Skills
Clinically proficient in all areas of respiratory care, including critical care services.
Demonstrated leadership capability with the ability to mentor, guide, teach, and motivate team members.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with physicians, associates, patients, families, and other customers.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and remain flexible in a dynamic, interruption‑driven environment.
Excellent time management, organization, and prioritization skills.
Ability to function effectively under pressure and manage stressful or high‑acuity situations.
Commitment to fostering a culture of trust, teamwork, and accountability within the Respiratory Care Department.
Physical and mental ability to work in confined or crowded environments and manage changing clinical demands.
Required Credentials
Associate Degree in Respiratory
Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
Minimum of 1 year of respiratory leadership experience
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) obtained within 30 days of employment start date
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) obtained within 90 days of employment start date
Neonate Resuscitation Program (NRP) obtained within 90 days of employment start date
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) obtained within 90 days of employment start date
