Overview
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)/Paramedic position at Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital provides patient care and services to a diverse patient population. Responsibilities include assisting with EKGs, collecting lab specimens, performing patient care activities of daily living, conducting hourly rounding, and reporting observations to licensed nurses or providers under the direction of a registered nurse.

Performs EKGs, collects lab specimens, and conducts patient care activities of daily living within unit-specific limits.
Conducts hourly rounding and reports observations to licensed nurse or provider.
Practices Patient and Family Centered Care in concert with Houston Methodist Experience standards.

Mentors new EMTs and ancillary personnel and serves as a role model for unit readiness.

Service Essential Functions
Provides direct patient care under the direction of a registered nurse and documents comprehensive screenings and care administered.
Observes patients, makes hourly rounds to ensure patient needs are met, and reports observations to the licensed nurse.
Contributes toward improving department scores for patient satisfaction.
Quality/Safety Essential Functions
Uses rapid assessment skills to identify patient severity and risks for adverse events, and communicates findings to licensed nurse or provider.
Manages incoming patient information and protects patient privacy.
Reports near misses and inputs errors promptly into PSN to improve processes.
Finance Essential Functions
Uses resources efficiently, assists with patient and staffing needs across the service line, and prioritizes daily tasks.
Maintains an orderly environment and assists in inventory, monitoring, and ordering supplies.
Growth/Innovation Essential Functions
Seeks opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies and identifies own learning needs.
Offers innovative solutions through participation in performance improvement projects and shared governance activities.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED, homeschool equivalency).
Completion of EMT-A, EMT-Paramedic program or licensed Paramedic, or participation in EMT to Paramedic program with EMT-Advanced classification.
Six months pre-hospital experience or six months hospital experience as an EMT or Paramedic.
Must hold one of the following licenses: LP, EMT-A, EMT-P, BLS, ACLS, PALS, NVCRISIS.

Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English.

Basic EKG interpretation skill and knowledge of EMTALA.
