Job Description The Reg Rad Tech 1 arranges patients for radiological examinations. Produces radiographs (x‑rays)/images to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems. Uses pre‑established imaging protocols and departmental policy to perform safe operation of imaging equipment and all functions of the job. Provides complete pre‑ and post‑education to patients and family. Initially, may require instruction and guidance to accomplish the job and should develop into performing work under general supervision. Reports to Supervisor or Manager.
Responsibilities
Clinical skills and exhibits working knowledge of all Diagnostic Radiology equipment and procedures.
Refers to physician's orders/chart for any special instructions that may be indicated.
Routinely questions the patient before procedure to obtain patient history.
Explains procedure completely to facilitate cooperation and alleviate anxiety.
Performs all procedures in an efficient and timely manner without compromising quality or the mission statement.
Coordinates Radiology schedule with other areas to prevent patient waiting.
Patient/General Safety: corrects and reports accidents, incidents and safety hazards; uses PPE when appropriate; is aware of potential chemical hazards and how to access MSDS information; uses good body mechanics when moving patients; adheres to infection control practices.
Radiation safety: asks females of childbearing age if they may be pregnant; uses proper shielding for pediatric patients and patients in childbearing age; routinely wears film badge to monitor exposure; completes annual mandated radiation safety; wears proper protection equipment while doing procedures.
Equipment Maintenance: routinely performs proper tube warm‑up for all x‑ray equipment; reports all equipment problems to chief technologist and places service call through call center.
Documentation/Communication: complete exam data entry fields on all exams; document all pertinent information (patient history, tech initials); other duties as assigned.
Is available to work a rotating on‑call schedule to ensure 24‑hour coverage of the Radiology Department.
Assist in other areas of the department as workload permits.
Keeps areas well stocked at all times.

Qualifications
Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technologist Program.
Good interpersonal/human relations skills; good oral/written communication skills; good teamwork skills; good critical thinking/decision‑making skills; superior organizational skills.
American Registry Radiologic Technician (ARRT) and current Louisiana Registered Radiologic license (LSRT).
New Graduates: Registry eligible for ARRT; current or temporary Louisiana Registered Radiologic license (LSRT); BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
