Environmental Specialist 2
We are seeking a conscientious Environmental Specialist in the Division of Surface Water (DSW) at the Central office in downtown Columbus, Ohio. The role protects Ohio’s waterways by monitoring municipal and industrial wastewater treatment facilities.
Overview Primary responsibilities include inspecting wastewater treatment facilities, reviewing required operation and maintenance reports, coordinating sample collection, responding to citizen inquiries, preparing enforcement actions, and providing technical assistance to internal and external constituents.
Responsibilities
Inspect wastewater treatment plants to determine compliance with state permits and regulations.
Review facilities’ monitoring reports required by NPDES permits.
Track permit compliance and prepare enforcement actions and correspondence.
Respond to citizen inquiries and complaints.
Provide technical assistance to internal and external constituents.
Assist officials, industry, consultants, and the public with wastewater treatment practices and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
12 months experience as Environmental Specialist 1, OR 4 years of training/experience in engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, geology, hydrogeology, or a comparable physical or health science field.
Experience conducting compliance monitoring surveys, inspections, reviews, or investigations for oil & gas well operations, injection wells, solid/hazardous waste sites, or industrial & municipal wastewater dischargers.
Baccalaureate degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, earth science, urban & regional planning, geology, or other comparable physical or health science field, with training commensurate with duties to be assigned.

Salary $30.55 – $44.74 per hour (average)
