Overview
Palo Verde Behavioral Health Hospital (PVBH) provides comprehensive behavioral healthcare for children, adolescents, adults, and senior adults suffering from mental health and addictive illnesses. PVBH is an 84‑bed, short‑term, acute care hospital offering inpatient, partial, and intensive outpatient hospitalization and specialized treatment programs for chemical dependency.
Job Summary The Assessment & Referral RN is responsible for the coordination of all admissions processes and serves as liaison to referral sources, families, pay‑ors, physicians, and hospital personnel involved with each admission.

Job Responsibilities
Process inquiry and referral calls and respond to requests for hospital and program information, assessment, and possible admission.
Verify insurance, triage patients, complete assessments, enter calls and admissions in computer and complete all admission paperwork with patient.
Effectively communicate with patients, physicians, staff, and referral sources.
Job Requirements
Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
Ability to prioritize; work well under high stress and pressure.
Ability to multi‑task and demonstrate critical thinking skills.
Demonstrates understanding of funding entities.
Thorough knowledge of psychiatric services provided by the hospital.
Ability to work flexible hours.
Basic understanding of computers and accurate data entry skills.
Knowledge of insurance contracts and pay‑ors.
Knowledge of precertification for inpatient hospitalization.
Experience gathering and documenting medical and clinical information to assess and staff appropriately with physician.
Ability to triage for medical and psychiatric needs.
Working knowledge of DSM‑V diagnostic criteria, mental status exam, and addiction and recovery field.
Excellent customer service skills, supporting and constructive communication with all contacts including coworkers, patients, visitors, families, and referral sources.
Qualifications Education
Graduate of accredited School of Nursing; bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience
One (1) – Three (3) years of experience preferred in psychiatric health care.
Working knowledge of DSM‑V diagnostic criteria, mental status exam, and addiction and recovery field.
Licensure / Certification
Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Arizona.
