Position Summary The APP is a clinical professional with expertise in orthopedic, hand & upper extremity patient care. Responsibilities include comprehensive patient assessments, care coordination, educational program delivery, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and participation in resident and student education.

Minimum Qualifications – Nurse Practitioner

Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with a Master’s Degree in Nursing.

National Certification from an APRN Certification Center.

Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia.

BLS Certification; additional Advanced Life Support training at the department’s discretion.

ACLS training (optional).

RNFA certification.

Minimum Qualifications – Physician Assistant

Bachelor’s Degree (or Master’s Degree) as a Physician Assistant.

Graduate of an ARC‑PA approved PA training program.

Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants.

Licensed or eligible for licensure by the WV Board of Medicine or WV Board of Osteopathic Medicine.

BLS Certification; additional Advanced Life Support training at the department’s discretion.

ACLS training (optional).

Preferred Qualifications

Orthopedic, surgical, or acute‑care experience.

Master’s level degree as a Physician Assistant (preferred).

Core Duties and Responsibilities

Manages comprehensive and individualized care for orthopedic patients in inpatient and ambulatory settings.

Participates in peri‑operative management and first assists in the operative suite.

Completes daily rounds, consults, and pre‑procedure evaluations.

Performs integrated assessments and orders additional tests or consults per clinical guidelines.

Conducts diagnostic tests and communicates results within scope of practice.

Facilitates patient discharge and/or follow‑up coordination.

Develops individualized care plans including teaching and discharge planning.

Recognizes and initiates emergency care for unstable or complex patients.

Assists in the collection of outcome measures and participates in clinical trials.

Serves as a resource for staff and provides educational programs to nursing staff and students.

Participates in community outreach, literature distribution, and professional development activities.

Documents plan of care, interventions, and evaluations according to hospital policies.

Collaborates with leaders and staff to achieve outcome‑based improvements and implement practice changes.

Participates in committees and task forces, and documents hours/billing as required.

Reviews orthopedic data and recommends changes to improve patient outcomes.

Other duties and projects as assigned.

Physical Requirements Requires strength and stamina for lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, and carrying patients or equipment weighing 40+ pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be provided.
