The University of Virginia seeks applications for a new Emergency Management Coordinator.
The Emergency Management Coordinator is responsible for assisting with preparedness, response, and recovery of planned and unplanned events that impact the UVA Medical Center operations to ensure continuous and safe medical care operations under any environment for patients, employees, and guests.
It is important to recognize that this position is required to staff after hours events as needed, and will be working in an office that requires 24/7 attention. The selected individual will be required to work evenings and weekends on an occasional basis, to help meet the needs of the University. This position requires an innovative and collaborative professional who can manage multiple projects, balance competing priorities, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced, high-workload environment.
Responsibilities of the Emergency Management Coordinator Include:
Collaborate with departments within the Medical Center and University to prepare for planned and unplanned threats.
Develop, review, and revise Emergency Procedures, including the Red Book, Emergency Operations Plan, and other resources.
Patriciate in Emergency Response for unplanned incidents.
Facilitate recovery efforts to return to normal operations.
Effectively incorporate after action review findings to revise and improve plans.
Maintain communication readiness for internal and external operations.
Provides effective coordination of institutional emergency management projects operations and response.
Manage social media accounts, as well as being proficient with the UVA Alerts and Veoci software systems.
Assist with developing and staffing an IAC structured Medical Center Incident Command Team capable of operating 24/7 under the direction of an Incident Commander and staff.
Conduct employee and staff outreach and education.
Acquires and maintains basic understanding of the Joint Commission Standards related to Emergency Management and incorporates into plans.
Participate in evening, night and weekend work as required, such as during severe weather and when staffing a command post or the emergency operations center.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's Degree in emergency management or related discipline.
Experience: One year of full-time emergency management-related experience.
Licensure: Obtain IS-100, IS-200, IS-700 and IS-800 certificates within the first 60 days of employment, obtain Associate Emergency Manager (AEM) certification within the first eighteen months of employment, and commence attendance with the National Emergency Management Basic Academy within the first twelve months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree in emergency management or a related discipline.
Three years of full-time emergency management experience.
Associate Emergency Manager (AEM) or Certified Emergency Management (CEM) certification.
Experience in Higher Education emergency management.
Experience with Veoci software.
Valid Virginia driver's license.
Ability to adjust to a changing environment, manage competing and shifting priorities and deadlines with a strong attention to detail.
Ability to foster an environment of continuous improvement.
Physical Demands This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers; however, it requires the ability to bend and lift over 50 pounds. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
Anticipated Hiring Range: $70,000 - $79,000, commensurate with education and experience.
