Professional Recruiter at Insight Global Summary The Substation Protection & Control Designer performs relay and control functions requiring the electrical design of distribution and transmission substations. This role involves independent development of detailed design packages fortage substations (new and modifications) using standard and non-standard design criteria. Designers are responsible for creating complete design packages, including panel wiring diagrams, breaker and transformer connection drawings, panel fabrication drawings, wiring and cable lists, bill of materials, metering, and SCADA drawings.
Key Responsibilities
Independently develop detailed electrical designs for high-voltage substations (46 kV and higher).
Breaker and transformer connection drawings
Panel fabrication drawings
Wiring and cable lists
Bill of materials
Metering and SCADA drawings
Apply standard engineering techniques, guidelines, and procedures to ensure sound design practices.
Interpret single-line, three-line, and elementary wiring diagrams.
Ensure compliance with utility standards and project requirements.
Required Skills & Experience
Experience:
3–4 years with an electric power utility in Substation Protection & Control Design.
Education:
Associate’s Degree in Engineering Technology or equivalent utility experience.
Proficiency in AutoCAD for electrical design.
Extensive knowledge of Protection & Control applications.
Familiarity with major drawings and panel wiring diagrams.
General knowledge of protective relaying and relaying applications.
Ability to interpret one-line, AC/DC elementary diagrams, and wiring schematics.
Nice-to-Have Skills
Experience in relay setting applications and/or relay testing (preferred but not required).
Compensation $35/hr to $45/hr.
Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
