Millwork Commercial/Residential Estimator (Administrative) Position Summary Analyzing project requirements, interpreting architectural plans, and creating a comprehensive cost estimate and an accurate materials list for millwork projects in the commercial/residential construction industry. The estimator is required to prepare estimate packages for presentation to the customer by a salesperson. They will communicate daily with both internal and external customers to ensure all critical information is correctly incorporated into the residential estimates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Analyze blueprints and any other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates for the project, including windows, doors, and finish trim.

Collaborate with outside salespeople, customers, architects, designers, suppliers, and project managers to clarify requirements, formulate estimates, and resolve any discrepancies or uncertainties.

Confer with salespeople, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.

Prepare cost estimates, bids, and technical reports through window and door software along with Bistrack pricing.

Review material and supplier options together with the purchasing department to decide the most cost‑effective way to procure estimated goods.

Monitor market trends and industry standards to stay up to date with new products, fluctuations in cost, and construction techniques.

Provide support during the bidding process and help create the presentation of estimates to clients with salespeople.

Collaborate with production teams to assess production methods, sequencing, and timelines to optimize efficiency and cost effectiveness.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as required and assigned.

Education / Experience

High School Diploma, or GED required.

Minimum of one (1) year of experience in estimating required.

Other Requirements

Skilled at developing estimates of millwork building materials for commercial and residential projects to include: windows, doors, finish trim, stair parts, wall paneling, basic knowledge of door hardware, and other various finished carpentry related goods.

Proficient at reviewing and understanding architectural drawings as well as specifications.

Determine estimated cost of the project and prepare a quote package using knowledge of standard company pricing, discounts, and estimating formulas and guidelines.

Work with the salesperson involved to ensure that all the customers’ needs have been met and relay any cost savings/value engineering ideas.

Help develop, implement, and monitor estimating control procedures.

Interact with and advise sales and customer service staff on technical aspects of customer inquiries and consult with design and project management staff when more in-depth analysis is required.

Be able to answer most questions using your own knowledge and experience.

Plan and pace own work efficiencies to meet daily, weekly, project, or team‑related productivity goals.

May be required to train less experienced team members and review their work.

Be able to build a professional looking and informative bid cover sheet with the goal of decreasing the quantity of post‑bid questions by the salesperson and/or customer.

Willing to obtain other training if deemed necessary in performance of responsibilities and continuing education.

Maintenance of regular attendance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer services, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures.

Keeping up‑to‑date technically and applying new knowledge to benefit the company and its customers.

Encouraging and building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.

Knowledge of company products sufficient to look up/reference parts, products or component lists.

Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.

Knowledge of company product pricing, discount, and estimating formulas and guidelines.

Knowledge of basic math and measurement skills.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements Normal office conditions apply. The employee must have clear, close vision for reading and computer work. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, balance, stoop, grasp, talk, hear, and operate computer keyboard. Job may require reaching at or above shoulder level and below waist. Will occasionally lift / push / pull up to 25 pounds. At times job‑site or warehouse visits may be required, subject to temperature variations, hazardous chemicals, mechanical parts, increased noise levels and dust.
