Field Service Technician Location: Decatur, AL

Reports To: Region Operations Manager or Field Service Supervisor
Job Summary Performs electrical apparatus work onsite at customer facilities. This includes electrical testing, preventative maintenance, commissioning, upgrades, and repairs to electrical apparatus.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in the execution of mechanical and electrical tasks on equipment utilized in power transmission, distribution, and generation at customer facilities.
Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and written diagrams to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems.
Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and clean all components in a substation.
Assist in the following tests:
Transformer Testing – Power factor, TTR, insulation resistance, SFRA, winding resistance, partial discharge, and leakage reactance.
Cable Testing – Insulation resistance, tan delta, hipot, TDR, partial discharge, and cable thumper.
Circuit Breaker Testing – Insulation resistance, contact resistance, power factor, breaker timing, SF6 gas analysis, CT testing, high current testing, secondary injection testing, and vacuum bottle integrity testing.
Participate in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment.
Participate in safety meetings and training.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Familiarity with industry standards such as NETA, NFPA 70E, OSHA compliance standards, safety laws, and DOT regulations.
Ability to assist in complex mechanical and electrical problems.
Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
Must have strong PC skills including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Office.
Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work well under pressure to meet goals and deadlines.
Doble DTAF and Power DB knowledge is preferred; training will be provided.
Consistently on time for daily assignments, meetings, and training.
Organizational skills, including timely reporting of time, expenses, weekly status reports, and other documentation.
Responsibility for keeping tools, test equipment, and vehicles clean, organized, and up to date with service and calibrations.
Work Environment
Willing to relocate within 60 miles of the hiring regional office.
Corporate business hours Monday‑Friday 7:30 am‑4:30 pm; on‑call or overtime may be required.
Work in close, but safe, proximity to live electrical substations.
Must be able to work overtime, including nights, weekends, and some holidays.
Must be able to travel overnight, multi‑day, out‑of‑town projects.
Rotate emergency on‑call duty and respond to customer emergencies promptly.
Education and Work Experience
Requires a High School Diploma or GED. Bachelor’s or Associates Degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology is preferred but not required.
Experience in electrical substation testing, construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, assembly, and commissioning is preferred.
This role is considered an introductory position; a mechanical aptitude and an attitude eager to learn are valuable.
Other Requirements
Must pass a pre‑employment criminal background check and motor vehicle check.
Must pass a pre‑employment drug and alcohol test and periodic, unannounced random testing.
Valid driver’s license required; willing to obtain a combined vehicle weight endorsement up to 26 k lbs.
Must lift and maneuver at least 50 lbs.
Willing to obtain a company‑paid TWIC card, OSHA 10/30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70E, and CPR training.
