Summary
A feed truck driver is responsible for transporting and delivering animal feed to various locations, such as farms, feedlots, and mills. A feed truck driver must operate a feed truck safely and efficiently, follow loading and unloading procedures, and maintain accurate records of deliveries and inventory. A feed truck driver must also comply with all federal, state, and local regulations regarding transportation, safety, and animal welfare.
Responsibilities
Drive a feed truck to various destinations, following routes and schedules provided by the dispatcher or supervisor.
Load and unload feed from the truck, using hoses, augers, or other equipment, and ensure that the feed is delivered to the correct bins or tanks.
Inspect and maintain the feed truck, checking for any mechanical issues, damage, or malfunctions, and report any problems to the supervisor or mechanic.
Perform routine cleaning and sanitizing of the feed truck and equipment, following established protocols and standards.
Keep accurate and complete records of feed deliveries, inventory, mileage, fuel consumption, and other relevant information, using electronic devices or paper forms.
Communicate with customers, dispatchers, supervisors, and other drivers, using radios, phones, or other devices, and provide updates on feed delivery status, issues, or concerns.
Follow all federal, state, and local regulations and laws regarding transportation, safety, and animal welfare, and obtain and renew any required licenses, permits, or certifications.
Adhere to the company's policies and procedures regarding feed quality, biosecurity, customer service, and professional conduct.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements.
Minimum one year of experience as a feed truck driver or similar role.
Knowledge of animal feed types, specifications, and handling procedures.
Ability to operate a feed truck and related equipment safely and efficiently.
Ability to perform basic math and record-keeping tasks.
Ability to communicate effectively with customers, dispatchers, supervisors, and other drivers.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to work in various weather conditions and environments.
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
Drug Screen will be required upon job offer.
