Communications & Outreach Student Hourly
Position Overview: The student hourly for the Center for Undergraduate Research & Fellowships provides administrative and communications support for strategic priorities related to undergraduate research and nationally competitive fellowships and scholarships. The student hourly is responsible for supporting outreach and communication efforts, event planning, and office operations.
Job Description 75% - Outreach & Promotion
Assist with outreach and promotional efforts for the Center for Undergraduate Research & Fellowships through targeted emails, newsletters, social media, online content, etc.
Create handouts, flyers, social media graphics, etc.
Create social media caption content.
Draft and/or proofread news releases to publish in KU News.
15% - Event & Operational Logistics
Organize and assist with event logistics for Rising Scholars annual events, fall and spring recognition events, workshops, etc.
Help track faculty fellow appointment data.
10% - Office Administration
Welcome students and other constituents visiting Summerfield 203 and assist with front office administration; provide exceptional customer service.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Demonstrated computer competency (Microsoft Office Suite) and capacity to learn new software systems as detailed in resume.
Strong attention to detail as evidenced through previous experience and application materials.
Strong communication skills as evidenced in application materials and interview.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of or experience with undergraduate research and/or nationally competitive fellowships and scholarships.
Experience with public relations, outreach, social media, etc.
Experience creating/designing handouts, social media graphics, etc.
Experience with Adobe products and/or other design tools.
Experience in event planning.
Previous customer service experience.
Eligible for Federal Work Study through KU Financial Aid.
Position Requirements During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
Employment Conditions Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR. To ensure consideration apply before the application review starts on Friday, 1/23/26. A review of applications will continue and is ongoing until a pool of qualified candidates is identified.
