What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a qualified and experienced individual to join the GFTX Training Team as a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Driver's Training Instructor. The ideal candidate will possess strong driving skills, patience, and the ability to effectively train and mentor driver candidates. The ideal candidate will be responsible for training prospective drivers to obtain their Class A CDL, guiding candidates through the entire licensing process, including obtaining a Commercial Learner's Permit, preparing for skills and knowledge testing, and conducting behind‑the‑wheel training. The instructor will also certify that candidates meet the necessary FMCSA and DOT standards to safely operate a Class A vehicle. Work will involve both indoor classroom settings and outdoor driving environments, with exposure to varying weather conditions during road training and testing. A flexible schedule is required to accommodate DMV testing hours and candidate availability. What You'll Do
Deliver theoretical training on Class A vehicle operation, including vehicle systems, load securing, and logbook management, and educate candidates on federal and state regulations. Prepare candidates for DMV written exams with study materials, practice tests, and personalized coaching. Conduct driving sessions in controlled and public settings, teaching key skills such as pre‑trip inspections, trailer coupling/uncoupling, backing, shifting, and navigating traffic. Provide feedback on vehicle control, situational awareness, and traffic law adherence, helping candidates meet testing standards. Assess and certify a candidate’s readiness for a Class A CDL, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations, modeling safe driving practices, and addressing unsafe behaviors promptly. Track candidates’ progress, test results, and certification status, documenting incidents and submitting reports as needed. Manage Entry Level Drivers Training (ELDT). What You'll Bring
Minimum 2 years holding a valid Class A CDL for operating combination vehicles like tractor‑trailers, and adherence to traffic laws. Minimum of 5‑7 years of professional Class A vehicle driving experience in varied conditions (e.g., long‑haul, local delivery), valuable for diverse training scenarios. Prior CDL instructor or trainer experience preferred, showing familiarity with teaching methods and the ability to mentor diverse learners and adapt instruction to individual needs. Strong grasp of federal and state CDL regulations, with the ability to write SOPs to standardize processes pertaining to CDL testing and licensing. Familiar with vehicle inspections, DMV testing procedures, Class A license requirements, and an understanding of vehicle safety and maintenance practices for effective teaching. Clear verbal and written skills to explain concepts and provide feedback, with the ability to document progress and communicate with candidates, management, and authorities. Instructor certification or training credentials are a plus, or additional endorsements (e.g., hazardous materials, tanker) are beneficial for specialized training. Compensation and Benefits
