Job Description Purpose and Scope Teaching faculty provide learning activities and support that lead to achieving course objectives and contribute to the educational environment. Responsibilities include planning, developing, and teaching courses within the curriculum to facilitate student learning.
Essential Job Functions
Teach Biology courses at various times and locations
Create engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of material
Submit required college reports and forms in a timely manner
Utilize a course syllabus for each course following established institutional guidelines
Meet with and advise students by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods
Evaluate students to measure progress and inform them timely of progress
Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community
Attend meetings, trainings, and orientations as required
Perform other reasonable related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Mastery of course content
Demonstrated leadership skills emphasizing collaboration, teamwork, and facilitation
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints and work effectively with a wide variety of people
Interest in interdisciplinary teaching, service learning, learning technologies, course development, and adult learning methodologies including collaborative learning, learning communities, and distance learning
Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional service, and providing a dynamic climate for lifelong learning
Ability to develop and implement instructional approaches such as service learning/civic engagement, learning communities, and the effective use of technology
Ability to use effective strategies to engage students in their learning
Physical Abilities The work is sedentary; the employee sits comfortably for most of the time. Occasional walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, or driving an automobile may be required, but no special physical demands are necessary.
Work Schedule and Conditions
Equipment used includes a PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, a calculator, phone, and general office equipment
Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out position functions
Work performed in a climate-controlled classroom and/or lab environment with minimal exposure to safety hazards
Hours vary depending on class time; instructors must meet students at all scheduled times and be available outside of class instruction
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree or higher in theoretical or applied biology, or life sciences, or a master’s degree with 18 graduate credit hours in theoretical or applied biology or life sciences
Salary $55.44 per contact hour.
