Job Summary An Infusion Nurse, Independent Contractor is a registered nurse who is capable of diagnosing and treating human responses to actual or potential problems. The Infusion Nurse, Independent Contractor is responsible for providing care to patients that have been assigned to and accepted by her/him including the provision of primary patient care, patient and family education, coordination with AOM Infusion’s in house RN staff in the development, implementation, and revision of the patient’s plan of care.

Requirements

Education:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Licensing:

Licensed and registered as a registered nurse in the States where practicing.

Certification:

Current CPR certification.

Experience:

At least one year of experience as a registered nurse preferably in a home infusion setting.

Pediatric:

When providing care to pediatric patients, at least one year of experience as a pediatric nurse preferably in a home infusion setting.

Infusion Access:

Knowledge and experience in managing infusion access devices such as peripheral lines, PICC lines and central venous catheters including implantable ports.

Health:

Free from any communicable diseases, illnesses or injuries that may interfere with the employee’s ability to perform tasks required of the position.

Schedule:

Flexible with work schedule. Provides after‑hours care when needed and communicates via the report system.

Communication:

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Contractor:

Intermittent visits based on nurse’s availability.

Responsibilities

Adhere to the State Nurse Practice Act and all applicable reporting and peer review requirements.

Assess and document patient biophysical, psychosocial, and educational needs.

Perform physical assessment and report findings to physician and in‑house RN staff.

Co‑operate with in‑house RN staff in designing and implementing the nursing care plan.

Identify and report changes in patient condition that require plan adjustment.

Provide comprehensive patient and family education on healthcare needs, prescribed therapy, infection control, and disaster planning.

Insert, maintain, and assess all types of intravenous access devices; report issues to in‑house RN staff.

Demonstrate competence in performing all treatments per physician plan.

Coordinate all patient care needs for an assigned group of patients with other members of the health care team.

Maintain high standards of nursing care and implement policies and procedures as established by AOM Infusion.

Monitor and maintain patient’s supply inventory; report supply needs to pharmacy department.

Maintain an inventory of emergency backup supplies such as CPR valved mask.

When assigned an infusion pump, clean and test the pump per AOM policy between each patient use and document procedure on the Pump Maintenance Log.

Complete all required patient care documentation and submit electronically via iPad supplied by company at the end of each patient visit with patient signature obtained.

Consistently adhere to universal precautions, aseptic technique and infection control guidelines and include the need for these techniques in all patient teaching sessions.

Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations and AOM Infusion policy.

Complete all charting per AOM documentation policy within required timeframe.

Report after each visit to in‑house RN staff or RN on call after hours for any adverse events and carefully document any patient incidents or issues that require writing of Unusual Occurrence Report.

Report any suspected inappropriate behavior or breaches to Federal, State and Local regulatory requirements or to AOM Infusion policies and procedures to the company’s Compliance Officer or Compliance Committee.
