$50-65/hr DOE One of our full-service agency clients is looking for a freelance Account Director to join their team for a 6-month contract covering for a full-time employee going on maternity leave. This freelance Account Director will be responsible for managing a key CPG client account and must be able to step in quickly, build immediate trust with clients, and keep workstreams moving smoothly across internal agency teams and partners. The freelance Account Director will lead day-to-day client communication, oversee digital advertising campaigns, and ensure the business and relationships remain stable and well-managed during the leave period. Ideal Freelance Account Director Candidates Will Have
At least 7-10+ years of account management / client leadership experience within an advertising agency environment. Proven experience leading CPG (consumer packaged goods) client accounts. Strong familiarity with digital advertising campaigns (i.e. display, social, video, programmatic, search or similar). Demonstrated success managing senior-level client communication, including presenting recommendations and performance results. Experience working cross-functionally with internal agency teams (strategy, media, creative, project management, analytics, etc.). Comfortable jumping into an active, fast-paced account with minimal ramp-up and quickly understanding existing workstreams. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Must be based in the United States and located in ET or CT time zones, with the ability to work standard ET business hours. What We're Looking For
Agency-proven Account Director who thrives in a mid-size environment—hands-on, collaborative, and comfortable rolling up their sleeves. Confident client partner who can maintain and protect the relationship during a coverage period. Self-starter who can quickly absorb context from the current Account Director, then operate independently. Job Responsibilities
Act as the primary day-to-day senior contact for a key CPG client account during the existing Account Director's maternity leave. Maintain strong, proactive client communication, managing expectations, timelines, and deliverables. Oversee the planning, execution, and optimization of digital advertising campaigns, in partnership with internal strategy, media, creative, and production teams. Translate client business objectives into clear briefs and actionable plans for internal agency teams. Review and provide feedback on media and creative recommendations, ensuring alignment with client goals, brand guidelines, and budgets. Keep all workstreams on track: manage status meetings, priorities, timelines, and approvals to ensure on-time, high-quality delivery. Collaborate closely with project management, media, creative, and analytics to troubleshoot issues and keep the client informed. Support ongoing reporting and performance readouts; synthesize campaign results into clear insights and next-step recommendations. Safeguard account health and continuity by documenting key decisions, sharing updates, and providing a smooth transition back to the returning Account Director. Important Note
This is a fixed-term maternity leave coverage role for approximately 6 months. There is no potential for extension or contract-to-hire. How to Apply
Please send your resume and a brief note highlighting your ad agency experience, CPG background, and examples of digital advertising campaigns or key accounts you've led. Accepted file types: doc, docx, pdf, txt. Max. file size: 10 MB.
