Position Summary(Basic Job Function)
This is a temporary or on-call position. Provides independent, direct and specialized nursing care as a primary care provider to patients with acute and chronic illnesses by performing physical examinations under protocol. Counsels and instructs patients in order to assist in their recovery and promote health education.
Unit Position Summary The MSU College of Nursing invites applications for the positions of on-call Nurse Practitioners (NP) to provide primary care services across the lifespan. The NPs will work as a part of an interdisciplinary team to provide care to patients and their families. The NPs will provide primary, acute and chronic care, develop treatment plans, and provide education on health maintenance and disease management to patients of a community partner. The NPs will work independently and in collaboration within the specified healthcare organization and will report through the CON. It is an expectation that the NPs will serve as a preceptor to graduate nursing students for the MSU College of Nursing. The selected candidates must be able to work 1 to 2 clinic days per week. Clinic hours are Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm, but times may vary based on need. There is an on call expectation with this position.
Desired Qualifications Duties and Responsibilities
Provide primary care to Family Medicine patients from birth through death
Chronic care management
Diagnose and treat health conditions
Formulate treatment plans
Order and interpret diagnostic tests
Prescribe medications, including controlled substances, if needed
Prescribe non-pharmaceutical treatments and therapies
Educate and counsel patients on preventative care, disease management, healthy lifestyle, and medications
Work as part of an interdisciplinary team
Assess and treat psychological disorders
Utilize established evidence-based practice guidelines
Participate in continuous quality improvement process
Manages a panel of patients
Electronic Medical Records (EMR) documentation
Provide in-person and Telehealth visits
Deliver high-quality, client-centered care
Ability to maintain strict client confidentiality
Minimum Education/Experience
Master of Science in Nursing
Unrestricted Registered Nurse license without probationary status (or eligible).
Unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license without probationary status (or eligible).
National certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner
One to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in direct nursing care in a specialized area
Primary care knowledge and experience
Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
