Summary Oversees the daily operations of the hospital's supply chain and distribution functions. This key leadership position requires a professional with expertise in employee and team development, inventory management, financial operations, and cross‑functional communication. The leader will work closely with clinical teams, vendors, and hospital leadership to ensure a seamless flow of supplies and equipment while optimizing cost efficiency, compliance, and patient care standards.
Responsibilities
Leads and supervises a team of staff in areas such as, but not limited to, intra-facility procurement and distribution, warehouse/inventory management, equipment services, courier services, and mail room management. Collaborate closely with laundry and linen distribution services, food services, pharmacy services, and surgical services.
Coordinates and develops cross‑departmental teams with clinical departments and staff to determine product needs, manage recalls and ensure timely availability of supplies for patient care.
Maintains accurate inventory levels for medical supplies in central distribution and par rooms. Tracks usage patterns and conducts audits using UNC Health System's par optimization tools to ensure optimal stock levels and minimize waste.
Promotes and utilizes UNC Health System's sourcing and procurement tools and resources to mitigate disruptions in the procure‑to‑pay process, including order placement, inventory tracking, ordering trends, and budget performance.
Develops and maintains relationships with key distributors, suppliers, and GPO partners to ensure resiliency, quality, and reliable service within the hospital's supply chain.
Monitors and manages the department's budget, working collaboratively with finance to ensure general ledger alignment and effective cost management and containment.
Ensures appropriate staffing levels are present to ensure optimal efficiency and patient satisfaction. Serves as a backup during employee absences to limit service disruptions.
Collaborates and adheres to all UNC Health System Supply Chain policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
Licensure / Certification Requirements
No licensure or certification required.
Professional Experience Requirements
Five (5) years of direct supply chain experience with an emphasis on inventory management experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Three (3) years of management experience.
If an Associate's degree, eleven (11) years of direct supply chain experience with an emphasis on clinical inventory management experience. Three (3) years of management experience.
If a high school diploma, thirteen (13) years of direct supply chain experience with an emphasis on clinical inventory management experience. Three (3) years of management experience.
Location and Compensation Location of Job: US:NC:Lenoir. Work Assignment Type: Onsite. Work Schedule: Day Job. Salary Range: $28.59 - $41.09 per hour (Hiring Range). Work Type: Full Time. Standard Hours Per Week: 40.00. Exempt From Overtime: Exempt: Yes.
