The Neighborhood Coordinator is a part-time (20 hours per week) position that reports to the SCVC Board of Directors. This role supports community-driven initiatives and volunteer-led committees by managing the organization’s daily operations. The Coordinator will assist the board, committees, and volunteers; lead communications and outreach; manage administrative and financial processes; and ensure SCVC’s activities run smoothly and effectively.

Key Responsibilities Board, Committee, and Event Support Create welcoming, well-organized spaces that encourage community participation and decision-making.

Collaborate with board and committee leadership to set agendas, prepare materials, and maintain records.

Attend and support board and committee meetings, as well as community events.

Recruit and engage residents to participate on committees and the board.

Prepare and distribute meeting notices, agendas, reports, and minutes.

Assist the board and committees in setting annual goals and tracking progress.

Communications and Outreach Keep residents informed and connected to SCVC’s programs, projects, and events.

Write and submit articles for community publications.

Publish a monthly e-newsletter and grow the subscriber list.

Maintain and update SCVC’s website and social media platforms.

Develop and implement an annual communications and outreach plan.

Use creative, inclusive engagement strategies such as door-knocking, yard signs, pop-up events, and community tabling.

Community Relations Strengthen SCVC’s reputation and partnerships across the community.

Build and maintain positive relationships with residents, volunteers, local businesses, institutions, neighborhood organizations, places of worship, elected officials, and government partners.

Represent SCVC at neighborhood, city, and partner meetings or events.

Coordinate and support volunteers and community partnerships.

Administration Manage SCVC’s day-to-day operations and ensure organizational efficiency.

Respond promptly to mail, voicemail, and email inquiries.

Maintain accurate membership databases, mailing lists, and organizational files.

Manage office supplies, equipment, and facilities.

Provide responsive information and assistance to community members who contact or visit the office.

Financial Management Work with the Bookkeeper and Treasurer to ensure the organization’s financial stability.

Follow SCVC’s financial policies and procedures.

Review monthly financial reports and bank reconciliations.

Process bills, deposits, and receivables.

Prepare and submit grant applications and reports to funders.

Manage contracts, reimbursements, and assist with annual budgeting and planning.

Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.

Experience in community leadership and volunteer coordination.

Strong organizational, communication, writing, and project management skills.

Strong financial literacy and attention to detail.

Self-motivated, flexible, and able to work independently.

Proficiency with digital tools such as Microsoft 365, OneDrive, Facebook, Instagram, Mailchimp, Canva, and website content platforms.

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Communications, Public Affairs, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.

Northside residency preferred but not required.

Working Conditions

Requires regular evening and occasional weekend hours for community meetings and events.

Consistent office hours are expected but can be set collaboratively with the employee.

Involves light lifting (typically under 10 pounds; occasionally up to 20 pounds).
