GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Wyoming State Geological Survey (WSGS) is seeking a
Geologic Data Technician/Geospatial Technology Analyst
in Laramie, WY. This position offers a unique opportunity to work as a contract employee and contribute to the WSGS’ mission of promoting the beneficial and environmentally sound use of Wyoming's geologic, mineral, and energy resources. The Geologic Data Technician will work on data processing, quality control, and digital delivery, directly supporting public access to high-quality, vetted geoscience data.
This position is expected to last approximately one year, with the possibility of an extension.
What we are looking for
Education:
Bachelor's (typically in The Sciences)
Experience:
0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in GIS or Data Management or related field)
Skills:
Detail-oriented technical person; familiarity with ESRI products including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online; strong collaboration skills; ability to conduct independent office work
Wyoming Geology:
Familiarity with Wyoming's geology and natural resources is a strong plus

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Digitize and attribute geologic features (lines, polygons, and points) using GIS software.
Develop, maintain, and support GIS layers within an enterprise GIS environment.
Make informed GIS decisions regarding projection types, topology rules, and other technical specifications.
Generate and compile data and associated metadata to create geologic maps and related products for diverse audiences, including the public, industry, government, and educators.
Maintain and support the agency's online mapping resources.
Perform comprehensive quality control (automated and manual) on all databases and geodatabases to ensure data accuracy, including implementing data validation and topology checks.
Identify data discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
Assist in the development of agency databases, ensuring they meet the standards set by agency, State, and federal mandates through the use of computer and various database software programs.
Assist with various data entry or data cleanup projects as needed.
PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS Preference may be given to applicants with aBachelor's Degree in Geography or GIS or 3-4 years of progressive work experience (Geography or GIS)
