PowerSouth Energy Cooperative, headquartered in Andalusia, AL, is a generation and transmission (G&T) electric cooperative with 22 distribution members — 18 electric distribution systems and four municipal electric systems — in Alabama and northwest Florida. Job Summary & Minimum Qualifications As a Buyer II, you will procure materials, equipment, supplies, and services essential for the construction and maintenance of generation and transmission facilities. The role also includes procurement of services, document management, and vendor coordination. Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Materials/Supply Management, Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Experience in purchasing, procurement, or materials/supply management within a utility environment is preferred.
Job Responsibilities
Solicit quotations from vendors, evaluate them, and review documentation for completeness to meet Risk Management and Accounting requirements.
Purchase quality materials, equipment, supplies, and services; advise the Purchasing Supervisor on requisition issues and vendor quotations.
Manage requisition documents—specifications, quotes, and vendor correspondence—within the company database, ensuring accurate receipt, recording, and acknowledgment of purchase orders.
Monitor purchase order statuses, report outstanding orders, and assist in negotiating terms and conditions for applicable general service agreements.
Collaborate continuously with vendors to maintain relationships, coordinate with PowerSouth Warehouse personnel, and analyze warehouse reporting for accurate catalog numbers and product descriptions.
Insert buyer notes on requisitions regarding vendor and product quality and communicate to vendors to refuse unapproved substitute products.
Support emergency authorizations to expedite vendor services, equipment, or material for emergency or unplanned work, ensuring compliance with schedules as directed by the Purchasing Supervisor.
Promote teamwork, group goals, and open communication within PowerSouth and with member systems, demonstrating respect, dignity, accountability, integrity, and trustworthiness.
