Job Overview The Laundry Supervisor is responsible for daily supervision of the laundry staff, ensuring quality service, guest satisfaction and safety. The Supervisor oversees laundry services and supports the administration of Housekeeping services, ensuring safe and efficient compliance with policies, procedures, brand standards, and federal, state and local regulations. The Supervisor promptly reports emergencies, accidents, injuries, missing articles, damage, engineering items and safety hazards to management, and reports any deviations from policies and standards to management.
What You’ll Be Doing
Supervise the laundry staff, ensuring new associates are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to achieve job expectations.
Evaluate staff performance and coach and counsel as necessary, communicating standards and individual contributions.
Ensure all required training occurs, including orientation, safety, fire, alcohol awareness, food handling and blood-borne pathogen training.
Ensure staff compliance with internal controls, policies, procedures, standards and regulations, while insisting on a harassment‑free work environment.
Perform and supervise washing, drying, ironing and folding linens and other items, ensuring proper techniques and equipment use.
Report maintenance problems promptly to Engineering through proper channels.
Create and monitor the laundry schedule in partnership with the Director of Housekeeping.
Ensure all associates are cross‑trained and rotated on all tasks.
Track and monitor poundage daily.
Track and monitor productivity daily.
Ensure equipment is cleaned at the beginning and end of each shift.
Enforce safety standards for dryers, lint traps and dust removal.
Confirm anyone working the dryers is properly trained.
Skills And Abilities Ability to effectively and efficiently supervise staff, daily operations and resolve operational problems in compliance with policies and procedures. Ability to interview, hire, schedule, motivate, train, monitor and address staff performance. Knowledge of laundry and housekeeping principles, proper use of cleaning equipment and supplies. Timely compilation of facts/figures, identification, investigation and resolution of matters. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills and efficient time management. Ability to follow appropriate actions based on policies and procedures. Proficiency in operating a computer, phone and other office equipment.
Working Conditions & Physical Effort Physical work is a primary part of many hotel and resort jobs. Requires extended standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, kneeling and lifting up to 50 lb. Work may be performed indoors with equipment and machines. Employees may be exposed to extreme temperatures, chemicals, dirt, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and loud noises. Safety precautions and protective equipment are required.
