Job Overview
This is a full‑time, on‑site role located in San Antonio, Texas, for a Welding Quality Inspector. The responsibilities include performing quality inspections on welded components, ensuring compliance with quality standards, and documenting inspection results. The role involves identifying defects, suggesting improvements, and collaborating closely with production teams to maintain high‑quality outputs. The position also requires maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to company quality protocols.
Core Responsibilities
Perform visual inspections of welds to identify defects such as cracks, porosity, undercut, incomplete fusion, and incorrect weld size.
Verify welds meet applicable codes and standards (AWS, AISC, customer specs, and internal quality requirements).
Interpret weld symbols, blueprints, and fabrication drawings.
Measure weld size using gauges and inspection tools.
Document inspection results and maintain accurate quality records.
Communicate nonconformance issues to welders, supervisors, and quality management.
Verify corrective actions and re‑inspect completed repairs.
Support audits and quality reviews as needed.
Follow all safety policies and procedures during inspections.
Required Skills and Abilities
Prior experience as a welding inspector or weld quality inspector.
Strong knowledge of welding processes (MIG, FCAW, SMAW, SAW preferred).
Ability to identify weld types and defects.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols.
Familiarity with AWS welding standards.
Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
Ability to work night shift and in a fabrication shop environment.
Preferred Qualifications
AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent.
Structural steel fabrication experience (MUST).
Experience with NDT methods (VT required; MT/PT a plus).
Experience in a structural steel fabrication shop.
Standing, walking, bending for extended periods; exposure to welding operations, heat, noise, and industrial equipment.
