The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in all facets of store operations, ensuring a sales‑driven environment, outstanding guest service, and leadership of the sales team. Responsibilities
Provide best‑in‑class guest service by promptly greeting guests, responding to inquiries, recommending products, and ensuring every transaction is courteous and efficient. Support the visual and operational environment, current sales initiatives, and guest relationships that drive sales and repeat business. Process guest purchases and returns accurately using the POS system, providing receipts and top‑notch service. Answer phone calls promptly and professionally, escalating issues to the Store Manager as needed. Promote GameStop’s guest benefit programs, including the reservation, trade‑in, and Pro Rewards programs. Assist the Store Manager in setting service expectations, training associates, and ensuring all store associates know company policies, procedures, and compliance requirements. Observe and provide feedback on associate performance, ensuring alignment with store guest service expectations. Maintain store cleanliness, merchandising, and operational readiness, including restrooms and equipment. Fulfill and ship Omni‑Channel orders daily. Implement inventory control, loss prevention, and bank deposit procedures, ensuring accurate merchandise counts and financial reconciliation. Support staff scheduling, staffing levels, payroll, and time‑off approvals. Maintain safety, report injuries, and ensure a hazard‑free environment. Perform daily inventory counts, restock merchandise, and ensure all products are organized and alphabetized. Reconcile daily cash and POS transactions, complete closing paperwork, and perform bank deposits. Process defectives, recalls, and stock pulls accurately. Supervise Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the Store Manager’s absence. Adhere to all GameStop policies, opening and closing procedures, and associate handbook guidelines. Qualifications
Proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States. Minimum age 18 years. High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred. At least 6 months of retail management experience preferred. At least 2 years of retail sales, guest service, and/or management experience preferred. Video game knowledge preferred. Key Job Skills and Abilities
Outgoing and welcoming personality with strong people skills. Provide genuine and individualized assistance to every guest. Excellent verbal and written communication, including bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Ability to achieve objectives in a fast‑paced, rapidly changing environment. Work independently and as part of a team. Meet associate performance expectations (attendance, appearance, safety). Operate POS system and perform basic mathematics. Complete required paperwork appropriately. Follow written instructions and execute financial tasks per company policy. Maintain a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and some holidays. Manage pressure and remain creative problem‑solver. Be reliable, trustworthy, and use good judgment. Work alone, stand and move throughout the store for up to 12 hours. Lift merchandise up to 30 lbs and perform basic physical tasks. Understand military ranks and insignia for stores on military bases (if applicable).
