Responsibilities

You will possess apprehension/detention authority on a military installation and will be required to carry a firearm in the performance of duties.

You will perform anti‑terrorism/force protection duties to deter, detect, and/or deny unauthorized access.

You will perform a wide variety of complex law‑enforcement duties generated by the surrounding area of the installation.

You will respond to and/or investigate complaints of minor to complex incidents, patrol installations by vehicle, bike, or foot.

You will perform law‑enforcement duties at fixed posts such as entry and exit gates throughout the installation.

You will write technical descriptive documents/reports and perform other law‑enforcement duties assigned.

You will conduct daily inspections of posts and take immediate action to correct discrepancies noted.

You will evaluate situations to respond using the minimum degree of force necessary to neutralize an incident.

You will inspect private and commercial vehicles in compliance with established instructions and regulations.

You will investigate circumstances or individuals that appear unusual or suspicious to prevent crime.

Conditions of Employment

You must be a U.S. citizen and determined suitable for federal employment.

You must be at least 18 years of age and able to read, write, and speak English.

You must participate in the direct‑deposit pay program.

New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E‑Verify employment verification check.

Within the Department of Defense, the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code § 3326.

The Department of the Navy does not employ individuals for Law Enforcement Officer positions who have been convicted of a domestic‑violence crime on or after 27 November 2002.

You must submit DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms before appointment.

This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment of the Gun Control Act; you will be required to sign a DD‑Form‑2760 and maintain an interim or final SECRET security clearance.

You must pass a National Agency Check and local background check.

Successful completion of a pre‑employment drug test (including marijuana) is required; a tentative offer will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug‑test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.

You must pass a sanctioned physical agility test, medical evaluation, and all required periodic re‑test.

You must pass all sanctioned job compatibility/psychological examinations and complete a pre‑appointment physical examination.

You must carry a firearm, meet the qualifications, be certified to carry it, and maintain firearm proficiency.

If you conduct law‑enforcement operations in navigable waters, you must attend the Inland Boat Operator Training Program at FLETC or a similar course.

You may be required to respond to off‑base circumstances as directed by the installation commander.

You must wear a uniform, maintain program height and weight appearance, and grooming standards per Marine Corps orders/policies.

This is a mission‑essential position; you will be required to ensure continuity of operations and completion of tasks essential to the mission.

As first responders to chemical/biological attacks, you must be able to train and wear protective equipment including mask, suit, boots, and gloves.

You must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license and be able to maintain a U.S. Government emergency vehicle operators license.

This position does not meet the definition of a Law Enforcement Officer and is excluded from coverage as an LEO for the Federal Employment Retirement System‑Base Annuity.

This position may require an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays; overtime or night differential pay may be required.

Failure to meet conditions of employment may result in disciplinary action or termination.

Qualifications

GS‑07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS‑06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service, or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate maintaining order and protecting life and property, responding to emergency calls, subduing and disarming violent individuals, conducting investigative stops, gathering and analyzing facts, seizing evidence, interviewing witnesses, conducting preliminary investigations, advising violators of rights, processing accident scenes, and presenting evidence in court.

GS‑06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS‑05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service, or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate responding to calls for police assistance, enforcing traffic laws, conducting traffic stops and vehicle searches, subduing and restraining individuals, assisting accident victims, providing first aid, and writing incident reports.

GS‑05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS‑04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service, or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate basic knowledge of laws and regulations, law‑enforcement procedures, routine fixed‑post assignments, regulating access to buildings, governing individual rights, and conducting security perimeter patrols.

GS‑04: Your resume must demonstrate at least six months of general experience and six months of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS‑03 grade level or pay band in the Federal service, or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. General experience must include administrative, clerical, technical, or military work that protected property, equipment, data, or materials, or involved making judgments based on rules, regulations, or laws. Specialized experience must provide knowledge of basic laws and regulations, law‑enforcement operations, and techniques involving maintaining order and protecting life and property.

GS‑03: Your resume must demonstrate at least six months of general experience that includes administrative, clerical, technical, or military work protecting property, equipment, data, or materials, or making judgments based on directions, rules, regulations, or laws.
