Salary: $51,632 to $98,113 per year (GL-05 to GL-08). Location: San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland, CA and various locations nationwide. Telework: Not available. Travel: Occasional travel may be required for training and/or work-related issues.

Duties
Provide supervision, care and correctional treatment of inmates and guidance to lower-graded Correctional Officers.
Maintain institution security, contribute to the health and welfare of inmates, and promote good public relations.
Enforce rules and regulations governing facility security, inmate accountability and inmate conduct to ensure judicial sanctions are carried out and inmates remain in custody.
May be authorized to carry firearms and use physical force, including deadly force, as needed to maintain control of inmates.
May be required to work long and irregular hours, including Sundays, holidays and overtime during emergencies or heavy workload.
Follow post orders, program statements, local supplements and custodial manuals; use own initiative to resolve problems.
Requirements
U.S. Citizenship is required. Selective Service registration may apply.
CTAP/ICTAP eligibility may apply for Federal employees who are surplus or displaced.
Medical and fitness requirements: duties are arduous and require sound health and physical fitness.
Background investigation including NCIC and credit checks; pre-employment screening; CVA assessment.
Qualifications Education (example requirements by grade):
GL-05: 4-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
GL-06: At least 9 semester hours or 14 quarter hours of graduate-level education in criminal justice, social science, or related field.
GL-07: One full academic year of graduate education in a related field.
GL-08: No substitution of education for specialized experience; must have specialized experience at the next higher grade level.
Experience (general): At least 3 years of full-time general experience for GL-05, including aptitude for correctional work and relevant personal attributes (e.g., leadership, judgment, adaptability).
Experience (specialized): At least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade, with examples provided for each grade (GL-05 to GL-08).
Other Information
Appointment subject to satisfactory completion of pre-employment requirements, including interviews and background checks.
